Top Chris Terry News

  • Chris Terry: Signs overseas

Terry secured a contract with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (KHL) on Tuesday.

Terry spent the last two seasons playing for AHL Grand Rapids in which he garnered 50 goals and 62 helpers in 126 appearances. The 31-year-old winger's last appearance in an NHL game back in 2016-17 when with Montreal. The move away from North America will likely close the door on Terry's NHL career, which would see him eventually retire having scored 22 goals and 16 assists in 152 games.

  • Red Wings' Chris Terry: Designated for waivers

Terry was waived by the Red Wings on Tuesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Terry requires waivers in order to be sent to AHL Grand Rapids. He's merely a depth option for the Wings who hasn't played in the NHL since the 2016-17 campaign with Montreal.

  • Red Wings' Chris Terry: Assigned to Detroit for two years

Terry secured a two-year contract with the Red Wings on Sunday.

Terry has compiled 38 points (22 goals, 16 assists) over 152 career contests between the Hurricanes and Habs. The Red Wings are flush with scoring wingers, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Terry kept at the AHL level for the majority of the 2018-19 campaign. He checks out as a solid depth option, though.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Clears waivers, heads to Laval

Terry cleared waivers Friday and will report to Laval of the American Hockey League, Stu Cowan of Hockey Inside Out reports.

Terry, 28, is your typical fringe NHLer that bounces back and forth between the AHL and NHL over the course of the season. He led the St. John's IceCaps with 30 goals and 68 points over 58 games in 2016-17.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Hits waiver wire

The Canadiens placed Terry on waivers Thursday.

Terry posted an impressive stat line in the minors last season, racking up 68 points (30 goals, 38 assists) in 58 games with AHL St. John's, but he wasn't able to translate that production into success with the big club, as he finished the campaign with a mere four points in 14 games with the Canadiens. The 28-year-old forward will almost certainly spend some time in the NHL this season, but he'll likely once again stick with Montreal's AHL affiliate for most of the year.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Returns to health

Terry (abdomen) was a full participant during Sunday's practice, J-F Chaumont of the Journal de Montreal reports.

The former Hurricane had missed close to a week with what the team called a "torso" injury, but he now appears to be at least close to 100 percent. Despite a huge year in the AHL in 2016-17 -- when he scored 68 points in 58 games -- Terry faces an uphill battle to make the Habs' roster, as evidenced by the fact that he is skating on the "sixth line" during camp.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Missing from practice

Terry was absent from Monday's training camp session due to a torso injury.

Even prior to getting hurt, Terry was a long shot to make the Opening Night roster. With this ailment limiting his participation, the winger is a near lock to return to AHL St. John's once training camp wraps up.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Signs one-year extension

Terry signed a one-year extension with Montreal on Friday.

The winger only has four points in 14 NHL games this year, but he's been a valuable member of the AHL St. John's squad, notching 50 points in 38 games. His fantasy value is limited given he spends most of his time in the minors -- when he does get called up, he's not worth a roster spot.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Sent to St. John's

Terry was sent back to AHL St. John's on Sunday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Terry was placed on waivers Saturday, so the move should come as no surprise after going unclaimed. The longtime borderline winger posted just four points in 14 games with the Canadiens and averaged just 9:53 of ice time over his short span with the club. It's unlikely he will ever make a large enough impact to be ownable in the vast majority of fantasy leagues, but he could make his way back to the top level should injuries dictate a recall.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Placed on waivers

Terry was waived by the Canadiens on Saturday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Terry kept going through lengthy stretches of watching games from the press box, so it's not all that surprising to see the Habs giving him the ax. The last straw was how he skated to a minus-3 rating in an embarrassing 7-1 loss at the expense of starting goalie Carey Price, who's not accustomed to such a poor showing. Still, he could end up with AHL St. John's if he clears waivers.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Scores in Wedesday's loss

Terry scored his second goal of the season in a 4-3 overtime loss to Tampa Bay on Wednesday.

The Canadiens' fourth line got on the scoresheet with Terry finishing a play started by linemates Michael McCarron and Daniel Carr. He's registered points in consecutive games now. The fourth line has been involved in goals during three of the last four games, something Montreal really needs at a time when its forward corps has been thinned by injury.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Pockets first goal of season

Terry scored a third-period goal in a 5-1 win over Anaheim on Tuesday.

The goal was his first of the season, as Terry's just up with the parent organization while several forwards rehab from injury. With Sven Andrighetto (upper body) nearing a return, Terry's hold on an active roster spot has a limited shelf life.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Skates on fourth line Saturday

Terry was in the active lineup Saturday, getting 8:01 of ice time in Montreal's 2-1 win over Washington.

Terry, who was called up after Friday's loss to San Jose, took the active roster spot of Sven Andrighetto (upper body). He skated on the fourth line and will remain in the lineup until Andrighetto or Andrew Shaw (concussion) are ready to return. The 27-year-old is strictly a fill-in guy, one of several Habs have on hand in the AHL.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Called up Friday

Terry was recalled from AHL St. John's on Friday, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports.

Terry was called after Montreal's loss to San Jose, when it was learned Sven Andrighetto's upper-body injury would prevent him from making the trip to Washington for Saturday's game. The 27-year-old forward leads the IceCaps with 26 points (10 goals, 16 assists) through 20 games.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Demoted to minors

The Canadiens assigned Terry to AHL St. Johns on Thursday, LNH.com's Arpon Basu reports.

Brian Flynn (upper body) is expected to return to Montreal's lineup for Friday's game against the Sharks, so the Habs are no longer in need of Terry's services as a depth forward. The 27-year-old winger tallied a single assist and six shots on goal in five games during his stay with the big club.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Recalled by Canadiens

The Canadiens recalled Terry from AHL St. John's on Monday.

Montreal did not announce whose place on the roster Terry will be taking, but he will be available for the Canadiens' next game Tuesday. Terry earned his way back onto an NHL roster by notching five goals and 10 assists through 14 games with St. Johns' this season.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Placed on waivers

Terry was waived Monday by Montreal in order to reassign him to the minors.

Terry notched eight goals in 68 contests for the Carolina last year before signing a one-year, two-way deal with Montreal during the offseason. The Canadiens have a lot of depth on the left side, which means the winger could spend the bulk of the upcoming campaign in the minors unless the team gets bit hard by the injury bug.

  • Canadiens' Chris Terry: Agrees to one-year, two-way deal with Habs

Terry agreed to terms with the Canadiens on a one-year, two-way contract Saturday.

The Hurricanes selected Terry in the fifth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft -- he's only appeared in 138 NHL games since then, and went minus-12 with 11 points in 68 contests this past season. Despite exchanging sweaters, the two-way aspect of his contract means he'll almost assuredly bounce between the organizational ranks in 2016-17.

  • Hurricanes' Chris Terry: Keeps point streak going

Terry recorded an assist and two PIM in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Islanders.

Terry is on an unexpected tear, notching points in five straight. For the few owners that trot the winger out in lineups, three goals and two assists in that span is more than you can ask for -- ride it while you can.

  • Hurricanes' Chris Terry: Extends goal-scoring streak Thursday

Terry scored a goal for the third consecutive game Thursday against the Blue Jackets, giving him five points in his last seven games.

Terry has been seeing a greater level of on-ice responsibility lately, skating on Carolina's second line with Victor Rask and Jeff Skinner. His ice time in Thursday's game was 14:55, the sixth time in the last seven games he's seen more than his season average of 10:39. He even saw some time on the power play (1:15), which has been rare for him this year. Still, with just 10 points in 60 games, it's hard to chalk this up to anything more than a late-season flourish for Terry; for those of you in deep formats who own him, enjoy the hot streak while it lasts.
