  • Nick Holden: Announces retirement

Holden announced the end of his playing career Tuesday. Holden will join Vegas' Player Development staff, with a focus on working with the organization's defense prospects. He notched 52 goals and 178 points over 654 career contests with the Blue Jackets, Avalanche, Rangers, Bruins, Golden Knights and Senators. The 36-year-old defender also had 17 points in 55 playoff outings.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Finds twine Saturday

Holden scored a goal in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Canucks. Holden tallied his second goal of the campaign at 15:44 of the third period. The 35-year-old's offense has found a new level lately, as he has three points over his last two games while working on the third pairing with Jakob Chychrun. It's unlikely to lead to power-play time for Holden, but the defenseman seems to have an edge over Erik Brannstrom to stay in the lineup. Holden has 15 points, 56 shots on net, 67 hits, 56 blocked shots and a minus-1 rating through 54 appearances.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Collects two assists

Holden notched a pair of assists and went plus-2 in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Kraken. Holden set up the Senators' first two goals, scored by Shane Pinto and Jakob Chychrun. Both of Holden's assists came on passes around the top of the circles. The 35-year-old defenseman has been in competition with Erik Brannstrom for a third-pairing role since Chychrun was brought in from Arizona. Holden has 14 points, 55 shots on net, 55 blocked shots, 67 hits and an even plus-minus rating through 53 contests overall, serving as more of a defensive-minded veteran option for head coach D.J. Smith.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Off injured reserve list

Holden (undisclosed) was removed from the injured reserve list Wednesday, per CapFriendly. Holden missed four games because of the injury, but he should be an option Friday versus Carolina. He has a goal and 10 points in 47 contests this season. Ottawa traded defenseman Nikita Zaitsev to Chicago on Wednesday, so the Senators have an open spot for Holden.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Moves to injured reserve

Holden (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, per CapFriendly. Holden's absence will last another three games at a minimum after he missed Tuesday's contest versus the Islanders. The 35-year-old defenseman doesn't have an official timeline to return. Jacob Larsson should stay in the lineup while Holden is out.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Out with undisclosed injury

Holden will not play against the Islanders on Tuesday after suffering an undisclosed injury, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports. Holden is not exactly an offensive dynamo considering he hasn't scored in 41 straight games, though he notched eight assists over that stretch. The blueliner's primary fantasy value will come in formats that value defensive stats, like hits and blocks, limiting him to a mid-range option. With Holden out of action, the Sens are expected to call up Jacob Larsson from the minors.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Generates assist

Holden logged an assist and two shots on goal in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Coyotes. Holden set up Artem Zub on the empty-netter in the third period. The helper snapped a six-game point drought for Holden. He's been in a third-pairing role lately, so his chances for offense will remain limited unless he gets promoted to a better spot in the lineup. The 35-year-old defenseman has seven points, 36 shots on net, 49 hits, 38 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating through 36 outings.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Strong effort in loss

Holden recorded an assist to complement a pair of hits and blocked shots in Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Capitals. Holden is a defenseman averaging only 16:22 of ice time, so this severely limits his fantasy prospects. He'd been on the radar following a 34-point season with the Rangers in 2016-17, but that's been the ceiling for the journeyman between six different teams and 12 years of NHL service time.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Two points Saturday

Holden scored a goal and an assist in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Panthers. He helped set up Brady Tkachuk early in the second period, tying the score at 2-2. Holden then lit the lamp for the first time this season midway through the third to tie it again at 3-3. Unfortunately for the Sens, they had no more answers when Florida took the lead once more. Holden came into Saturday with zero points through five games, and the veteran will remain a bottom-pairing depth option on the blue line barring a rash of injuries to the Ottawa roster.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Finds twine Monday

Holden scored a goal on two shots in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken. Holden's long-range shot beat Chris Driedger at 3:15 of the second period, giving the Senators their only lead in the game. The tally ended Holden's 27-game goal drought, a span in which he mustered six assists. The 34-year-old blueliner has had to take on more responsibility since Thomas Chabot (hand) was ruled out for the year. Holden has five goals, 18 points, 71 shots on net, 111 hits, 107 blocked shots and a minus-1 rating in 70 appearances.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Six points in last eight games

Holden picked up two assists Thursday in a 3-1 win over Buffalo. Holden won't overwhelm with his totals, but he's quietly put up six points (two goals, four assists) in his last eight contests. It's a nice little run, but we don't think it's sustainable.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Keeps point streak going

Holden dished out two assists -- one on the power play -- in Tuesday's 4-3 win over Carolina. Holden added five blocked shots to his ledger, contributing on both ends in the upset win. The veteran blueliner has two goals and two assists during a surprising three-game point streak, but don't expect Holden to keep this pace up much longer -- his four points in this stretch match his total from his first 33 games this season.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Goals in consecutive games

Holden scored a goal, blocked three shots, added two hits and went plus-2 in Monday's 4-1 win over the Devils. Holden put the Senators ahead at 7:54 of the second period, and they never looked back. It was the defenseman's second goal in as many games after he scored just once in the first 33 contests of the season. The 34-year-old's at six points, 38 shots on net, 61 hits, 47 blocks and a minus-3 rating in 35 outings overall. While the sudden uptick in offense is encouraging, Holden is unlikely to keep the surge going much longer as a more defensive presence in the lineup.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Nets lone goal

Holden scored a goal in a 4-1 loss to the Islanders on Tuesday. Holden had not registered a point over his previous six games and had not scored a goal since Dec. 7 against the Islanders. The blueliner has just five points in 34 games this season.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Inks one-year extension

Holden agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.3 million contract extension with the Senators on Thursday. Holden has struggled to produce offensively this season with just four points in 30 games, a far cry from the player who once put up 34 points with the Rangers back in 2016-17. Without a spot on the power play, the 34-year-old Holden figures to continue being a bit player in the Sens' offense and therefore shouldn't be expected to offer much in the way of fantasy value moving forward.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Manages assist

Holden recorded an assist, three hits, two blocked shots and two shots on goal in Monday's 3-2 shootout win over the Devils. Holden picked up just his second assist of the year on a Brady Tkachuk goal in the second period. The 34-year-old Holden has added 31 hits, 27 blocks, 15 shots on net and a minus-7 rating through 17 contests. The Canadian blueliner rarely racked up big scoring numbers -- the Senators will keep him in the lineup as a defensive presence and mentor to some of their younger defensemen.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Exits COVID-19 protocols

Holden was activated off the NHL's COVID-19 protocols list Saturday. Holden will likely be in the lineup when Ottawa returns to action Monday against the Avalanche. The 34-year-old defender has picked up one helper through 10 games this campaign.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Placed on COVID-19 list

Holden was placed in COVID-19 protocols Sunday. Holden will join Austin Watson as the two Senators skaters on the COVID-19 list. The 34-year-old will need to produce two negative tests before Tuesday's tilt with Boston in order to get back in the lineup. The team recalled Erik Brannstrom in a corresponding move.

  • Senators' Nick Holden: Traded to Ottawa

Holden and a 2022 third-round pick were traded by the Golden Knights to the Senators in exchange for Evgenii Dadonov on Wednesday. Holden appeared in just 17 games with Vegas last season, picking up two helpers while averaging 15:51 of ice time per contest over that span. The Senators are pretty thin at defense, so Holden could be a bottom-pairing regular for Ottawa in 2021-22, but don't expect him to put up many points.

  • Golden Knights' Nick Holden: Goals in back-to-back games

Holden scored a goal on three shots, doled out three hits and added a plus-2 rating in Monday's 4-1 win over the Canadiens in Game 1. Holden's scoring surge continued into the Stanley Cup Semifinals. He's now scored in back-to-back games and he's picked up seven points in 11 playoff contests overall. The defenseman has added 14 shots on net, 36 hits and a plus-5 rating while working in a bottom-four role.
