Flyers' Ryan Ellis: Not expected to play in 2022-23
Ellis (back) is expected to miss the entirety of the 2022-23 campaign with what could be a career-threatening injury, NHL.com's Adam Kimelman reports.
When asked about Ellis' injury, general manager Chuck Fletcher said "I know we've been probably vague with describing the injury, I think we've called it multifaceted, which it is. There's a psoas component of this, there's a hip component, there's an adductor component, so I'm not sure that if you go in and repair one part it's going to fix everything we're trying to work with. Trying to get everything back, rehab everything back. I've never heard of an injury like this. It's very complicated. A torn psoas is a very significant injury for a hockey player, a very rare injury, so we're doing the best we can and we'll just leave it up to the medical experts." Ellis was limited to just four games in 2021-22 due to his multi-faceted injury, and it appears as though his NHL future is truly up in the air. The 31-year-old defender has five seasons remaining on his eight-year, $50 million deal.

Ellis (pelvis) remains without a clear recovery timeline, Frank Seravalli of DFO reports Tuesday.
Ellis was already expected to miss the start of the 2022-23 campaign but this latest news seems even less optimistic for the veteran defender. The Ontario native logged just four games for the Flyers last season and appears no closer to playing in a fifth.

Flyers' Ryan Ellis: Could miss start of season
Ellis (pelvis) may not be available for the start of the 2022-23 campaign. Coach John Tortorella told reporters, "If you're asking me right now, I doubt it," Adam Kimelman of NHL.com reports.
Ellis was originally considered questionable for the start of training camp but it seems his long-term pelvic injury could sideline him even longer. Since being acquired by the Flyers via trade back in July of 2021, the veteran defenseman has logged just four games and should be expected to start the year on long-term injured reserve in order to give the team some cap relief.

Flyers' Ryan Ellis: Questionable for training camp
Ellis (pelvis) is making improvement during his rehab but remains questionable for the start of training camp, Sam Carchidi of Philly Hockey Now reports.
Ellis played only four games last year due to ongoing issues with the injury, and he remains in the middle of a long rehab process. Barring setbacks, the defenseman isn't expected to be sidelined too long to begin the year. Once he's ready to play, Ellis will likely command a top-four role.

Flyers' Ryan Ellis: Expected back in 2022-23
Ellis (lower body) is expected to be healthy by the start of next season, per interim head coach Mike Yeo, Sam Carchidi of Philly Hockey Now reports.
Yeo added that Ellis may need to get surgery in the offseason, but the procedure would evidently be relatively minor. Flyers' Ryan Ellis: Done for season
Ellis (lower body) will not return during the 2021-22 campaign, Charlie O'Connor of The Athletic reports.
Ellis looked great to begin his first season as a Flyer, racking up five points while averaging 22:48 of ice time through four games before suffering the season-ending injury. The team is still weighing options regarding his treatment but, without a playoff spot to compete for, they're opting to play it on the cautious side. Another update on his status should be available once the Flyers make their decision on a possible surgery.

Flyers' Ryan Ellis: Likely done for season
Ellis (lower body) continues to not make progress in his return from injury, and Sam Carchidi of Philly Hockey Now reports the defenseman's season is likely over.
Ellis produced a goal and four assists in four games but couldn't shake off a lower-body injury, which Carchidi reports is likely a hip or a groin issue. The 31-year-old Ellis was acquired from the Predators in an offseason trade that also involved the Golden Knights receiving Nolan Patrick. Ellis remains under contract for the next five seasons, with the hope being he'll be ready for training camp in September.

Flyers' Ryan Ellis: Out of COVID-19 protocols
Ellis (lower body) has cleared the NHL's COVID-19 protocols but remains out indefinitely. Coach Mike Yeo told reporters, "It's just not making a lot of progress right now," Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
At a minimum, Ellis should probably be expected to miss at least one more week due to his lingering lower-body problem. The 31-year-old defenseman has played in just one game since late October but has registered a point in all four appearances this year. Once cleared to play, Ellis will no doubt resume logging big minutes for the club, including with the man advantage.

Flyers' Ryan Ellis: Lands on COVID-19 list
Ellis (lower body) was placed in the NHL's COVID-19 protocols Sunday, according to Bill Meltzer of NHL.com.
As if dealing with a lower-body injury wasn't bad enough, Ellis is now also in the league's COVID-19 protocols -- which means his chances of returning to the ice before the end of the calendar year have essentially vanished. He's played just four games this season, a span in which he's racked up one goal and four assists.

Ellis (lower body) will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks but won't require surgery, Adam Kimelman of NHL.com reports.

Even on the short end of his proposed timeline, the Ontario native figures to miss at least the next 14 games while on injured reserve. In the meantime, Nick Seeler should continue to feature heavily on the blue line.

Ellis (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Adam Kimelman of NHL.com reports.
Ellis is considered week-to-week after aggravating his lower-body injury during Saturday's loss to the Stars. At this point Ellis' recovery timetable remains unclear, but surgery could still end up being necessary to correct his lower-body issue. Flyers' Ryan Ellis: Labeled week-to-week by coach
Ellis (lower body) re-injured himself and is now considered week-to-week, per coach Alain Vigneault, Olivia Reiner of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Ellis appears to have aggravated the lower-body injury that kept him out of all but four of the Flyers' first 13 games. The offseason acquisition's extended absence will be a major blow to the Flyers considering Ellis has been excellent when available, totaling five points in his first four appearances with the team.

Flyers' Ryan Ellis: Helps out on power play
Ellis notched a power-play assist, two shots on goal and two blocked shots in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Stars.
In his return from a lower-body injury, Ellis was able to get on the scoresheet again. The 30-year-old defenseman has five points, including two on the power play, in four games as a Flyer. If he can avoid aggravating the injury, he should emerge as a reliable two-way blueliner who can score enough to be trusted in standard fantasy formats.

Flyers' Ryan Ellis: Still shelved against Leafs
Ellis (lower body) will not be an option versus Toronto on Wednesday, Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Despite early reports that Ellis might be in the mix for a spot in the lineup, it seems he will have to miss his eighth consecutive game due to his lower-body issue. Still, the fact that the 30-year-old Ontario native had at least an outside chance of playing Wednesday should be an indication he is nearing his return to the ice. In the meantime, Nick Seeler should continue to feature on the blue line.

Flyers' Ryan Ellis: Iffy for Wednesday
According to coach Alain Vigneault, Ellis (lower body) has an "outside chance" of returning to action Wednesday versus Toronto, The Athletic Philadelphia's Charlie O'Connor reports.
