Markstrom stopped 15 of 24 shots in Tuesday's 9-0 loss to the Islanders.
Markstrom has lost in the three outings he's played against the Islanders this season (0-2-1), but this was also his worst outing of the season by any imaginable measure. The Swedish netminder will look to bounce back in his next start. Since he's been splitting the workload in the Devils' crease with Jake Allen, it wouldn't be surprising if Markstrom gets his next call when facing the Jets on Sunday, Jan. 11.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Set to face Islanders again
Markstrom will patrol the road blue paint against the Islanders on Tuesday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Markstrom and Jake Allen have split the crease evenly lately, with both netminders getting six starts in the last 12 games. That workload share has seemingly benefited Markstrom, as he's registered a .914 save percentage and a 2.39 GAA, but he also has a 2-3-0 record during that span, a result of the Devils not providing him with much offensive support in those losses. The Swedish netminder is 8-7-3 against the Islanders across 18 career appearances, including two losses this season (0-1-1).

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Sharp in win No. 10
Markstrom made 30 saves in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Mammoth.
The veteran netminder took a shutout into the third period before Michael Carcone snapped a one-timer past him with less than eight minutes left. Markstrom hasn't allowed more than three goals in an outing since Nov. 29. He's 10-9-1 this season with a 3.20 GAA and an .888 save percentage.

It was a tough night for Markstrom. The first goal came on the power play, the second marker came just one second after the man advantage expired and the third goal came on a deflection off a Devils' defender. Markstrom's mates failed to show up, either offensively or physically, and he was left alone to weather the Leafs' charge. He has scuffled this season on the whole, but he has looked sharper of late. Markstrom had allowed just five goals on 73 shots (.932) over his last three starts (1-2-0) and could be starting to change his luck.

Markstrom had a solid performance before he allowed the game-winning goal with 75 seconds remaining in the contest. The 35-year-old now has a 9-8-1 record with a 3.33 GAA and an .883 save percentage across 19 appearances this season. While the 2025-26 campaign has been a down year overall for Markstrom, he has played better as of late with a 2-2-0 record, a 2.71 GAA and a .907 save percentage over his last five appearances. It would be an enormous task to bring his season stats back to an elite level, but if he can maintain his recent success, he should remain a decent option in standard fantasy leagues. His next opportunity to take the ice is Saturday against the Capitals.

Markstrom picked up just his second win in six outings this month with one of his best performances of the season. He's up to 9-7-1 with a 3.40 GAA and an .881 save percentage through 18 appearances. He's been largely outplayed by Jake Allen (2.49 GAA, .912 save percentage), but both goalies have 17 starts to their name so far. The Devils' next game is Sunday at home versus the Sabres.

While it should be noted that Markstrom played well down the stretch of Sunday's contest, he is having a career-worst year in many major stat categories. While he still holds bounce-back appeal in fantasy and is potentially worth a stash in deep leagues, there are likely stronger options available in standard league formats. His next chance to start is Wednesday on the road against the Golden Knights.
