Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Starting against United States
Markstrom will tend the twine for Sweden during Wednesday's quarterfinal matchup against the United States at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Although Filip Gustavsson started the first two games of the Olympics for Sweden, Markstrom has seen increased work recently and will draw a third consecutive start during Wednesday's quarterfinal game. Markstrom turned aside 26 of 29 shots during Saturday's win over Slovakia before making 20 saves on 21 shots during Tuesday's qualification win over Latvia. The United States will pose a much tougher test Wednesday, but he's coming off a promising outing.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Cruises to win Tuesday
Markstrom stopped 20 of 21 shots in Sweden's 5-1 win over Latvia in the 2026 Winter Olympics on Tuesday.
Markstrom was beaten midway through the second period, but other than that, he was excellent in a game where the offense provided enough support to claim an easy win. However, the Devils' netminder will have a tougher challenge against Team USA on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Markstrom has stopped 49 of 53 shots in his two starts in the current Olympic campaign.

Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Expected starter Tuesday
Markstrom was the first netminder off the ice at Tuesday's morning skate, according to Dan Rosen of NHL.com, which indicates he'll tend the twine for Sweden against Latvia during Tuesday's qualification matchup at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Markstrom is set to make his second straight start for the Swedes after Filip Gustavsson played in the team's first two games of the tournament. The 36-year-old Markstrom turned aside 29 of 32 shots in a 5-3 win over Slovakia on Saturday. The Latvians finished last in Group C during round-robin play, going 1-0-0-2. The winner of Tuesday's game will face the United States on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
