  • Rangers' Chris Kreider: Strikes on power play in loss

Kreider scored a power-play goal on two shots and went minus-3 in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Capitals. Kreider ended a three-game point drought with his tally just 30 seconds into the second period. The winger has scored six times this season, with two of those goals coming on the power play. He's yet to log an assist and has a minus-2 rating, but he's recorded 25 shots on net and 11 hits across nine appearances. The Rangers' offense has been deep early on, even with some struggles for the top line of Kreider, Mika Zibanejad and Reilly Smith. Head coach Peter Laviolette appears set to let his players work through those issues without resorting to dramatic lineup shuffling, so Kreider should have every opportunity to find more consistency.

  • Rangers' Chris Kreider: Five goals in first five games

Kreider scored two goals in a 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs on Saturday. His first stood as the winner. Kreider tapped in a cross-crease pass from Mika Zibanejad while on a delayed penalty in the second period. He also put in an empty-net goal. Kreider has five goals and 16 shots in five games this season. The 33-year-old has scored 127 regular-season goals since he turned 30. Kreider is one of those rare late bloomers whose skills will dry up fast someday, but there's no sign of that in his game now.

  • Rangers' Chris Kreider: Playing Thursday

Kreider (illness) is good to play Thursday versus Detroit, per Peter Baugh of The Athletic. Kreider will feature on the top line alongside Mika Zibanejad and Reilly Smith. The 33-year-old Kreider has three goals in three appearances this year and has recorded over 35 markers in each of the past three regular seasons.

  • Rangers' Chris Kreider: Dealing with illness

Kreider missed Wednesday's practice due to an illness, per Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today. Kreider has three goals through three games this season. If he's unavailable Thursday versus Detroit, then Will Cuylle, who is off to a great start with a goal and three points in three contests, might get a shot on the top six.

  • Rangers' Chris Kreider: Redirection yields power-play goal

Kreider scored a power-play goal on two shots, added two PIM and logged two hits in Monday's 4-1 win over the Red Wings. Kreider redirected a Mika Zibanejad shot into the net at 17:05 of the second period. That goal stood as the game-winner. Through three games, Kreider has scored a goal at every strength (one each on the power play, shorthanded and at even strength) while adding nine shots on net and four hits. The winger offers upside in goals, power-play points, shots and hits as a physical two-way forward on the Rangers' top line.

  • Rangers' Chris Kreider: Lights lamp twice in win

Kreider scored two goals, one shorthanded, in Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Penguins. Kreider then scooped up a loose puck in his own zone in the third and went the distance to beat Tristan Jarry for a shortie, giving the Rangers a 5-0 lead. Kreider fell just shy of his second career 40-goal campaign in 2023-24, but he's off to a quick start this season to try and reach that mark.

  • Rangers' Chris Kreider: One and one in loss

Kreider scored a shorthanded goal and added a helper in Thursday's 3-2 loss to Florida in Game 5. Kreider registered his first points of the series in Thursday's home loss. The 33-year-old has cooled down significantly after recording 10 points in as many games across the first two rounds of the postseason. In addition to the multi-point effort in Game 5, Kreider had four shots on goal, four hits and a plus-1 rating in 22:04 of ice time. New York will need Kreider at the top of his game if they want to avoid elimination in Game 6 on Saturday. The first-line winger is tied for the team lead in goals during the postseason with eight. He's also added four assists and a minus-4 rating in 15 outings.

  • Rangers' Chris Kreider: Playing in Game 6

Kreider (undisclosed) told reporters he would be in action versus the Hurricanes for Game 6 on Thursday, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports. Kreider didn't play it coy like coach Peter Laviolette, clearly telling reporters that he would be in the lineup Thursday. Through the first five games of this series, the 33-year-old winger has generated two goals and two assists, including three power-play points. Even with concerns about a potential minor injury, Kreider remains a top-end fantasy target heading into Game 6.

  • Rangers' Chris Kreider: Status Thursday uncertain

Kreider, who took a maintenance day Wednesday, is not a lock to suit up against Carolina in Game 6 on Thursday, though coach Peter Laviolette said it was "a real positive" that Kreider skated Thursday, Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today reports. Kreider's potential absence could be nothing more than playoff head games being played by the Rangers bench boss, but unfortunately, fantasy players will need to monitor the situation ahead of warmups. In nine playoff appearances, the 33-year-old Kreider has generated four goals and three assists, including three power-play points. If Kreider can't go in Game 6, Will Cuylle could be shifted into a top-six role.

Kreider was on the ice for three goals against in Monday's 4-1 loss to Carolina in Game 5. It was a forgettable night for Kreider as he failed to register a point and went minus-3 in the clash. The 33-year-old Kreider has been solid in the postseason with five points, 10 shots on net, nine hits and a plus-1 rating over five contests. He provides a little grit and a strong net-front presence both on the power play and at even strength, in addition to playing significant shorthanded minutes.

  • Rangers' Chris Kreider: Starts playoffs with goal

Kreider scored the final goal in Sunday's 4-1 Game 1 win over the Capitals. Kreider opened the postseason doing what he's consistently done over the Rangers' last two playoff runs. Since the start of the 2022 playoffs, Kreider has 17 goals and 26 points through 28 games. Sunday's game got chippy, and if the series stays that way and penalties begin to mount, Kreider could become a significant factor as a key piece of the Rangers' top power-play unit. He was sixth in the NHL with 18 power-play goals this season. Since the start of the 2019-20 season, he is tied for third in power-play goals with 72, sitting behind only Leon Draisaitl and Sam Reinhart. Sunday's third-period marker came at even strength, though.
