Tony DeAngelo: Bound for KHL
DeAngelo signed a one-year contract with KHL club SKA St. Petersburg on Monday.
DeAngelo saw action in just 31 regular-season games for the Hurricanes last year in which he generated three goals, eight assists and six power-play points while averaging a career-low 14:20 of ice time. It seems the 28-year-old blueliner didn't have any significant offers from NHL clubs this summer and will need to revitalize his career in the KHL.

Hurricanes' Tony DeAngelo: Puts up helper in win
DeAngelo logged an assist and went minus-2 in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rangers in Game 4.
DeAngelo has earned both of his helpers this postseason over the last three games. While he continues to see a bottom-four role due to the absence of Brett Pesce (lower body), DeAngelo isn't trusted to handle many minutes. In addition to two assists, he's managed 12 shots on net, six hits, five blocked shots, six PIM and a minus-2 rating over seven playoff appearances.

Hurricanes' Tony DeAngelo: Questionable for Game 1
DeAngelo (wrist) is questionable for the start of the second round, per Luke DeCock of The Raleigh News & Observer on Wednesday.
DeAngelo was injured after absorbing a slash during Tuesday's 6-3 victory over the Islanders. That Game 5 win clinched the series for Carolina, so DeAngelo and the rest of the Hurricanes have some time to rest before their quest for the Stanley Cup resumes.

Hurricanes' Tony DeAngelo: Being checked for injury
DeAngelo went for X-rays after taking a slash Tuesday's Game 5 versus the Islanders, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports.
DeAngelo was able to return after the incident, but the Hurricanes will give him further evaluation after clinching their first-round series win. The defenseman had no points in three outings after replacing Brett Pesce (lower body) in the lineup. DeAngelo's status should be updated before the start of the Hurricanes' second-round series versus the Rangers.

Hurricanes' Tony DeAngelo: Back at it with assist
DeAngelo recorded an assist and two blocked shots in Friday's 5-2 win over the Blues.
DeAngelo has appeared in just nine NHL games since the calendar flipped to 2024, with the eighth-year defenseman often labeled a healthy scratch. Despite adding 42 points with the Flyers last season, DeAngelo has largely fallen out of favor in the fantasy realm, as the playoff-bound Hurricanes simply don't need him for heavy minutes. He's averaging 14:01 of ice time in Carolina as measured against his career-high 22:04 average for Philadelphia in 2022-23.

Hurricanes' Tony DeAngelo: Hits waivers
DeAngelo was placed on waivers Thursday, per Chris Johnston of The Athletic.
DeAngelo's placement on waivers may simply be the result of Carolina seeking additional roster flexibility ahead of Friday's trade deadline, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him stick with the Hurricanes rather than head to the AHL in the event he goes unclaimed on the wire. DeAngelo, who's been a healthy scratch for three straight games, has been limited to 10 points through 27 appearances with Carolina this year.

Hurricanes' Tony DeAngelo: Scores Sunday
DeAngelo scored a goal on his only shot in Sunday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Sabres.
DeAngelo opened the scoring 2:40 into the first period, sliding a Michael Bunting feed past Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to give the Hurricanes an early lead. It's the first point since Dec. 15 for DeAngelo, who's played in four straight games for Carolina after serving as a healthy scratch for much of the year. The 28-year-old defenseman is up to three goals and 10 points through 27 games this season.

Hurricanes' Tony DeAngelo: Back in lineup
DeAngelo played his third consecutive game Saturday against the Stars, registering a pair of hits, a shot on goal and a blocked shot in 15:21 of ice time.
DeAngelo hadn't played in three straight games since mid-December, having spent most of the last two months as a healthy scratch. Although he isn't contributing offensively as much as he once did, he's still moving the needle in the aforementioned peripheral stat categories, giving him modest fantasy value in deeper formats.

Hurricanes' Tony DeAngelo: Assessed 10-minute misconduct
DeAngelo was given a 10-minute misconduct penalty in the closing minutes of Thursday's matchup with Colorado.
DeAngelo was back in the lineup for the first time since Jan. 5 versus Washington, a stretch of 10 games as a healthy scratch. The blueliner returned to action thanks to an injury to Brett Pesce (illness), but DeAngelo could find himself relegated back to the press box once Pesce is cleared to play, perhaps as early as Saturday's matchup with New Jersey.

Hurricanes' Tony DeAngelo: Benched again
DeAngelo sat out Saturday's 3-2 win over the Maple Leafs as a healthy scratch.
DeAngelo has frequently been absent from the Canes' lineup lately, having watched from the press box for 16 of the last 20 games. DeAngelo has proven to be a liability in his own end on most nights, and given the team's stacked blue line, he has failed to carve out a consistent role for himself this season. Avoid.

Hurricanes' Tony DeAngelo: Strikes on man advantage
DeAngelo registered a power-play goal in Friday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Predators.
DeAngelo saw just 5:39 of ice time, with more than half of it taking place on the man advantage (2:58). There's plenty of season left, but DeAngelo has largely disappointed on the heels of a 42-point campaign with the Flyers in 2022-23. Through 19 appearances this campaign. he has two goals, seven assists and a minus-10 while spending plenty of time warming the press box as a healthy scratch.

Hurricanes' Tony DeAngelo: Watching from press box
DeAngelo was a healthy scratch for the sixth consecutive game for Saturday's 6-2 win over the Sabres.
DeAngelo has struggled in his own end this season, as evidenced by his team-worst minus-10 rating. Instead, the Canes are giving Jalen Chatfield a long look in the lineup these days, and he has done nothing but impress with a plus-5 rating along with a goal and three helpers in the past six games. At this point, there is nothing to suggest DeAngelo will be back in the lineup anytime soon.

DeAngelo scored a power-play goal in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Sabres.
The veteran blueliner opened the scoring midway through the first period, sailing a shot from the point past a screened Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. It was DeAngelo's first goal of the season -- the 28-year-old has had a somehwat slow start to the campaign in his return to Carolina, producing six points in 13 games with a minus-8 rating.

Hurricanes' Tony DeAngelo: Manages assist in loss
DeAngelo produced a power-play assist, three shots on goal and a minus-3 rating in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Ducks.
DeAngelo has an assist in each of the Hurricanes' three games this season, and two of those helpers have come on the power play. The 27-year-old is doing just what was expected of him when he signed with Hurricanes after the Flyers bought him out over the summer. DeAngelo has added seven shots on net, two blocked shots and a minus-3 rating so far -- he shouldn't be relied on for production in the defensive categories.

Hurricanes' Tony DeAngelo: Garners helper
DeAngelo notched an assist and two blocked shots in Saturday's 6-5 shootout win over the Kings.
DeAngelo has picked up a helper in each of the first two games this season. He's also notched four shots on goal, two blocks and an even plus-minus rating. The 27-year-old has been on the third pairing so far, but he's also seeing power-play time, which keeps him in the mix for fantasy managers. As long as the scoring production is there, he'll be a solid blueliner in the virtual game.
