Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Slides first assist this season
Slavin tallied an assist and had two hits in Saturday's 3-2 win over Seattle.
Slavin notched his first assist of the season on William Carrier's game-winning goal in the third period. Slavin has one point, two shots on net, two hits and eight blocks through six appearances this season. While the beginning of his season has been derailed by a pair of injuries, he has a strong outlook in the second half of the season as he's set to play his usual role of top-pair minutes for one of the league's strongest defensive units. If he can stay healthy, Slavin should be a strong source of category coverage, though he had just 27 points in 80 regular-season games last season.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Good to go
Slavin (upper body) will be activated from injured reserve ahead of his return to the lineup against Seattle on Saturday, according to Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site.
After missing the last 10 games, Slavin will return to his top-pairing role and should see time on the penalty kill. He hasn't produced a point in only five appearances this season while providing four shots on goal and eight blocked shots.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Won't play Thursday
Slavin (upper body) will not be in the lineup versus the Ducks on Thursday, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Slavin has played in just five games this season, and he's failed to register a point. At this point, the Denver native appears to be close to getting back into the lineup but will have to wait until at least Saturday's matchup with Seattle. Once Slavin is given the green light, he likely will replace Alexander Nikishin or Joel Nystrom on the blue line.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Awaiting medical clearance
Slavin (upper body) is still waiting on medical clearance ahead of Thursday's clash with the Ducks, Ryan Henkel of The Hockey News reports.
Slavin was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. However, head coach Rod Brind'Amour didn't offer any clarity regarding Slavin's availability versus Anaheim, a situation complicated further by the team's decision not to hold a morning skate Thursday. Still, in order for the veteran defenseman to suit up, he will need to be activated off injured reserve. Once that happens, fantasy managers can expect Slavin back in the lineup.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Shifts to IR
Slavin (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Monday.
Carolina recalled Joel Nystrom from AHL Chicago in a corresponding move. Slavin is week-to-week, and it's unclear when he will be available to return to the lineup. He hasn't earned a point in five appearances this season while providing four shots on goal and eight blocked shots.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Considered week-to-week
The Hurricanes announced Monday that Slavin is considered week-to-week due to an upper-body injury.
Slavin recently returned from a two-month absence due to a lower-body issue, but he's dealing with a separate injury ahead of the holiday break that will force him to miss more time. It's not yet clear when he'll be able to return, but it seems possible that the Hurricanes will elect to place him on injured reserve, especially if he's slated to be sidelined after the holiday break.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Practices in non-contact jersey
Slavin (lower body) participated in Tuesday's practice in a non-contact jersey, Ryan Henkel of The Hockey News reports.
This was Slavin's first time back on the ice since he suffered an injury Oct. 11. The 31-year-old's status wasn't updated by the team, but this attendance at practice suggests he is starting to ramp up. Considering the length of his absence, he will likely need a handful of practices before being ready to play again, so his return is not yet imminent.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Placed on injured reserve
Slavin (lower body) was placed on injured reserve by the Hurricanes on Thursday, per the NHL media site.
Slavin sustained a lower-body injury during Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Flyers, and head coach Rod Brind'Amour said that the defenseman would be "out for a while." As a result, it isn't particularly surprising to see Slavin land on injured reserve, officially sidelining him for multiple games. Mike Reilly will likely continue to see playing time in Slavin's absence.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Not on road trip
According to Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site, Slavin (lower body) won't be an option against San Jose on Tuesday, and the defenseman didn't accompany the Hurricanes on the team's six-game road trip.
Head coach Rod Brind'Amour told Ruff on Tuesday that Slavin will be kept "out for a while." If the 31-year-old blueliner misses the entirety of the road trip, his next opportunity to play will come against Vegas on Oct. 28. Slavin will be replaced in Tuesday's lineup by Mike Reilly.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Still being evaluated
According to Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site, Slavin (lower body) didn't participate in Monday's practice, and it's unclear if he will travel the Hurricanes for the start of the team's six-game road trip.
Slavin is still undergoing evaluations after suffering an injury in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over Philadelphia. He hasn't earned a point in two appearances this season while posting two shots on goal and three blocked shots. If Slavin is unavailable for Tuesday's matchup against San Jose, Mike Reilly will probably make his season debut.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Sustains injury Saturday
Slavin is being evaluated for an undisclosed injury sustained in Saturday's game versus the Flyers, Ryan Henkel of The Hockey News reports.
Slavin came out of the game during the third period. The injury leaves him day-to-day ahead of Tuesday's contest in San Jose, which is the start of a six-game road trip out west for the Hurricanes. If Slavin misses time, Mike Reilly will enter the lineup.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Available for Thursday
Slavin (undisclosed) is good to play in Carolina's season opener against New Jersey on Thursday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports Wednesday.
Slavin recorded six goals, 27 points and 136 blocks in 80 regular-season appearances with Carolina in 2024-25. The 31-year-old is likely to play on the first pairing, but he probably won't see time with the man advantage versus the Devils.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Skating in non-contact jersey
Slavin (undisclosed) was on the ice in a non-contact sweater Tuesday, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Slavin isn't expected to participate in any preseason games as he works his way back from injury, but the fact that he was on the ice is a step in the right direction. The veteran blueliner still has some time to get to 100 percent prior to Opening Night against the Devils on Oct. 9. While Slavin is unlikely to offer any power-play production -- he hasn't registered a point with the man advantage since 2021-22 -- he should still be capable of challenging for the 30-point threshold.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Likely held out of preseason action
Slavin (undisclosed) is unlikely to play in any preseason games, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports Sunday.
Slavin didn't participate in a team practice earlier this week due to soreness, and now the Hurricanes likely will hold him out of the entire preseason as a precaution. However, he still might be fine for Carolina's season opener versus New Jersey on Oct. 9. The 31-year-old plays a key shutdown role and had 21 points in 80 regular-season games last year.

Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Doesn't skate Thursday
Head coach Rod Brind'Amour said that Slavin didn't skate Thursday since he was "a little sore," Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Slavin has appeared in at least 80 regular-season games in each of the last two seasons, most recently logging six goals, 21 assists, 136 blocked shots and 21 hits while averaging 21:34 of ice time over 80 regular-season outings last year. Brind'Amour said Thursday that Slavin won't go until he's 100 percent healthy, but it seems unlikely that his soreness will limit his regular-season availability.
