Top Nathan Bastian News

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Moves to LTIR

Bastian (jaw) was put on long-term injured reserve Monday.

Bastian sustained a jaw injury in a 3-0 loss to Calgary on Nov. 1, meaning he won't be eligible to return until at least Nov. 27 versus the Blues. He has two goals, five points, 11 shots on net, seven blocked shots and 19 hits through 12 outings this season. On Monday, the Devils also moved Curtis Lazar (knee) to injured reserve while recalling Shane Bowers, Justin Dowling, Nolan Foote and Nick DeSimone from AHL Utica.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Set to miss time

Bastian (jaw) will be out for "several weeks", Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Bastian left Friday's game against the Flames following a fight with Ryan Lomberg, and it now appears that the winger could be in for an extended absence. The 26-year-old Bastian had gotten off to a nice start this season, tallying two goals and five points in his first 12 games. Kurtis MacDermid figures to take over on the Devils' fourth line in Bastian's absence.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Sustains jaw injury

Bastian (jaw) won't return to Friday's game versus the Flames.

Bastian was presumably injured after taking a beating in a fight with Ryan Lomberg in the first period. The 26-year-old Bastian racked up two hits and 17 PIM in this contest. If he's forced to miss time, the Devils have a similar player to replace him on the fourth line in Kurtis MacDermid. An update on Bastian's status should be available prior to Monday's game in Edmonton.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Puts up helper Wednesday

Bastian logged an assist and five hits in Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Canucks.

Bastian was scratched for each of the previous two games, but he drew back in on the fourth line Wednesday. The 26-year-old forward has five points, 11 shots on net, 17 hits and a plus-1 rating through 11 contests this season. His recent stint in the press box proves he's not a lock for the lineup, but he's had a strong start to the campaign as a physical presence and depth scorer. Still, as a fourth-liner, he won't offer much of an impact in fantasy.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Lights lamp in loss

Bastian scored a goal on two shots in Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Lightning.

Bastian has two goals in his last three games. The 26-year-old winger has filled a fourth-line role this season, so stretches of offense like that are unlikely to be the norm. He's at four points, 11 shots on net, 10 hits and an even plus-minus rating through nine appearances. Bastian's biggest contributions usually come in the form of hits.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Pots shortie for game-winner

Bastian scored a shorthanded game-winning goal in Thursday's 3-1 victory over the Senators.

The 26-year-old winger collected his first career shortie in the second period, keeping the puck on a 2-on-1 counter-attack and ripping it past Anton Forsberg to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. Bastian's bottom-six role doesn't offer much fantasy upside, but he's had a solid start to the season with a goal and three points in seven appearances to go along with nine hits, seven shots, five blocked shots, four PIM and a plus-1 rating.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Bags two apples Friday

Bastian recorded a pair of assists in a 4-1 win versus the Sabres on Friday.

Bastian was limited to just 54 regular-season games for the Devils last year, logging just 12 points along the way. Even with his strong performance in the regular-season opener, the 26-year-old winger's ceiling likely remains in the 20-25 point range, in part due to his bottom-six role. If he were to force his way into more responsibilities, including a power-play assignment, perhaps Bastian could push for a higher point total.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Healthy at training camp

Bastian (lower body) is healthy at training camp Friday after missing the last 26 games of the regular season in 2024, Catherine Bogart of the Devils' official site reports.

Bastian finished the 2023-24 season with five goals, seven assists and 143 hits in 54 games. He could have a tough time cracking the Devils' lineup in 2024-25 as he is in a battle for a spot on the fourth line with Paul Cotter and Nolan Foote.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Lands on IR

Bastian (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Friday.

Bastian will miss at least the next three games after being injured in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Rangers. He has registered 12 points, 57 shots on goal and 144 hits in 54 contests this season. New Jersey summoned Brian Halonen from AHL Utica on Friday for some additional forward depth.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Rough going Thursday

Bastian (upper body) didn't finish Thursday's game versus the Rangers, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Bastian was bloodied on a hit by Matt Rempe in the first period and quickly left the game. When he came back, Bastian got hit by Jacob Trouba and then fought the Rangers' captain. While Bastian finished the second period, he didn't come back for the third, and he should be considered day-to-day ahead of Saturday's contest versus the Canadiens.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Two goals in Stadium Series win

Bastian scored a pair of goals in Saturday's 6-3 Stadium Series victory over the Flyers.

Bastian extended New Jersey's lead to 4-1 late in the second period, beating Samuel Ersson with a wrister on the rush, before adding an empty-netter to seal the Devils' win. Bastian, who only has two multi-point efforts this year, came into Saturday's contest with just three goals this season and one in his previous 14 outings. The 26-year-old forward has 12 points (five goals, seven assists) and 141 hits through 52 games this campaign while skating in the Devils' bottom six.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Helps out twice in overtime win

Bastian posted two assists in Monday's 6-5 overtime win against the Golden Knights.

Bastian finished with a plus-2 rating, a shot on goal and a hit in his 15:39 of ice time. It was the right winger's first multi-point showing of the season. His last multi-point performance came on April 11, 2023 when he had three assists in a victory against the Sabres. He'll look to add to his totals in a road game Thursday against the Hurricanes.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Nets third goal of season

Bastian found the back of the net in a 4-1 win over Columbus on Fridaay.

Bastian earned his third marker and eighth point in 41 contests this season. The tally also snapped his three-game scoring drought. Bastian is serving strictly in a bottom-six role with irregular power-play ice time, so he shouldn't be expected to make regular offensive contributions this year.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Supplies rare helper

Bastian recorded an assist in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Capitals.

The Devils were in control for basically the entire game, with fourth-line winger Bastian even getting in on the action. He's scored one goal to go along with five helpers through 34 contests. New Jersey ranks seventh in the league at 3.46 goals per game, but Bastian simply doesn't play enough to warrant consideration in fantasy leagues.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Game-time decision

According to coach Lindy Ruff, Bastian (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision Saturday versus Detroit, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Bastian has a pair of assists in his last three games. The 26-year-old winger has one goal, five points and 56 hits in 29 contests this season.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Expected to play

Bastian (undisclosed) is expected to be in the lineup for Saturday's game versus the Red Wings, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Bastian was deemed a game-time decision, but he was involved in line rushes in warmups in his usual fourth-line spot. The 26-year-old has five points, 56 hits and a minus-9 rating through 29 outings this season, and he's been out of the power-play mix for all of December.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Manages assist in win

Bastian posted an assist and three hits in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Canucks.

Bastian snapped his seven-game point drought when he set up a Michael McLeod tally in the first period. The 25-year-old Bastian has been limited to fourth-line minutes for much of the campaign, and he hasn't scored enough to warrant a promotion in the lineup. He's at three points with 26 shots on net, 39 hits, four PIM and a minus-9 rating over 22 contests.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Plays mostly on special teams

Bastian skated just 8:27 of ice time in Thursday's 4-3 overtime win over the Flyers, recording one shot and one blocked shot.

The majority of Bastian's ice time came on special teams, as he logged 1:40 on the power play and 2:43 shorthanded. His role on the second power-play unit can give Bastian an inkling of fantasy relevance at times, but a minuscule fourth-line role at even strength makes it tough for the 25-year-old winger to score consistently. Bastian's currently mired in a six-game point drought, which has him stuck on one goal and one assist this season.

  • Devils' Nathan Bastian: Gets first point in eighth game

Bastian contributed an assist, one shot, one blocked shot, two hits, two PIM and a plus-1 rating in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Wild.

This is about as much as Bastian can stuff the stat-sheet from his little-used fourth-line role; all that production came in just 8:24 TOI on Thursday. The assist was Bastian's first point of 2023-24. He had six goals and nine assists in 43 appearance last season.
