He scored the first goal of the game 10:06 into the first period before tallying his second just 32 seconds after the Sabres took a 2-1 lead. Overall, the 27-year-old blueliner has 20 goals, 46 points and 171 shots on net in 68 games this season. Chychrun's goals ended a nine-game drought without lighting the lamp. However, he remained active on offense during this stretch with four assists and 31 shots on net. His first season with the Capitals has been the best offensive campaign of his career and he is currently tied with teammate John Carlson for 15th-most points from a defenseman in the league this season. Chychrun should maintain strong value in all fantasy formats for the remainder of the season.

Chychrun's new deal will begin with the 2025-26 campaign and run through 2032-33. He has 18 goals, 43 points, 46 PIM, 47 hits and 79 blocks in 65 appearances with Washington this campaign. This is the 26-year-old's second straight campaign with at least 40 points and the third time he's hit that milestone in his career. Chychrun is getting a big raise compared to his current $4.6 million cap hit, but he should serve in a top-four capacity for the Capitals throughout the life of his new contract. Chychrun scored a goal on two shots in Friday's 5-2 win over the Red Wings.
Chychrun came out of the 4 Nations Face-Off break with four points over two games, but his offense took a nosedive with a five-game drought after that. He put the slump to rest with a goal Friday, which ended up being the game-winner for the Capitals in their comeback effort. With the tally, he's matched his career high in goals at 18 and reached the 40-point mark for the third time, including two straight seasons. The defenseman has added 136 shots on net, 74 blocked shots, 36 PIM and a plus-22 rating in 58 appearances in 2024-25.

Chychrun scored the winner at 12:05 of the third period on a snap shot from the left face-off circle. It was his 14th of the season which moves him into a tie with Quinn Hughes (lower body) for third overall for NHL defenders. The goal was Chychrun's first in eight games. That's the longest goal drought for the hard-shooting defender this season, but it shouldn't come as a surprise. Some regression was expected for Chychrun, who has been scoring at a 12.7 percent success rate, -- that's significantly higher than his career 7.3 percent. Still, he's a solid fantasy play. His 34 points (49 games) put him in the top 15 in the NHL.
