Capitals' Jakob Chychrun: Out of lineup Tuesday
Chychrun is not in the lineup versus the Islanders on Tuesday, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.
No reason was provided for Chychrun's absence, but it's safe to assume this is a rest situation for the 27-year-old defenseman, as he played 20:46 in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Blue Jackets. Alexander Alexeyev and Dylan McIlrath will both be in the lineup while Chychrun and John Carlson sit this one out. It's unclear if Chychrun will be an option for Thursday's regular-season finale versus the Penguins.

Capitals' Jakob Chychrun: Ends goal drought with two tallies
Chychrun tallied two goals, fired four shots on net and had two hits in Sunday's 8-5 loss to the Sabres.
Chychrun tallied the first two goals of the game for the Capitals. He scored the first goal of the game 10:06 into the first period before tallying his second just 32 seconds after the Sabres took a 2-1 lead. Overall, the 27-year-old blueliner has 20 goals, 46 points and 171 shots on net in 68 games this season. Chychrun's goals ended a nine-game drought without lighting the lamp. However, he remained active on offense during this stretch with four assists and 31 shots on net. His first season with the Capitals has been the best offensive campaign of his career and he is currently tied with teammate John Carlson for 15th-most points from a defenseman in the league this season. Chychrun should maintain strong value in all fantasy formats for the remainder of the season.

Capitals' Jakob Chychrun: Expected to play Tuesday
Chychrun (hand/wrist) is slated to play Tuesday versus Winnipeg, per Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post.
Chychrun's availability was in question after he suffered a laceration to his hand/wrist area during Saturday's 6-3 victory over the Panthers. Capitals' Jakob Chychrun: Locked up for eight years
Chychrun (hand/wrist) inked an eight-year, $72 million contract extension with the Capitals on Tuesday.
Chychrun's new deal will begin with the 2025-26 campaign and run through 2032-33. He has 18 goals, 43 points, 46 PIM, 47 hits and 79 blocks in 65 appearances with Washington this campaign. This is the 26-year-old's second straight campaign with at least 40 points and the third time he's hit that milestone in his career. Chychrun is getting a big raise compared to his current $4.6 million cap hit, but he should serve in a top-four capacity for the Capitals throughout the life of his new contract. In the short term, Chychrun is questionable for Tuesday's game against Winnipeg after sustaining a laceration to his hand/wrist area during Saturday's 6-3 win over Florida.

Capitals' Jakob Chychrun: Dealing with laceration
Chychrun was cut by a skate in his hand/wrist area during Saturday's game against Florida and is considered questionable for Tuesday's game in Winnipeg, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.
Although head coach Spencer Carbery said that Chychrun got lucky overall during Saturday's incident, he also described the 26-year-old's laceration as a "significant" cut. It's encouraging that Chychrun will travel with the team ahead of Tuesday's matchup, but it's not yet clear whether he'll be able to play. If he doesn't get the green light, Alexander Alexeyev and Dylan McIlrath are candidates to take his place in the lineup.

He's added 145 shots on net, 74 blocked shots and a plus-24 rating while filling a top-four role for the Capitals.

He put the slump to rest with a goal Friday, which ended up being the game-winner for the Capitals in their comeback effort. With the tally, he's matched his career high in goals at 18 and reached the 40-point mark for the third time, including two straight seasons. The defenseman has added 136 shots on net, 74 blocked shots, 36 PIM and a plus-22 rating in 58 appearances in 2024-25.

Chychrun tallied a goal, an assist, both on the power-play, and added two blocked shots during Sunday's 7-3 win over the Oilers.
Chychrun has been on fire of late with four goals, six points and 14 shots in his last four outings. The pending unrestricted free agent paces all Capitals defensemen with 17 goals and 38 points in 51 games this season and is a game-breaking fantasy asset due to his prolific shooting ability, so fantasy managers should keep him deployed with regularity.

The 26-year-old has posted 16 goals and 37 points in just 41 games. He could set new career highs in goals (18) and points (41) if he can stay healthy and productive the rest of the way.

Capitals' Jakob Chychrun: Two-point night in win
Chychrun scored a goal and added an assist in Thursday's 4-3 win against Philadelphia.
Chychrun scored the winner at 12:05 of the third period on a snap shot from the left face-off circle. It was his 14th of the season which moves him into a tie with Quinn Hughes (lower body) for third overall for NHL defenders. The goal was Chychrun's first in eight games. That's the longest goal drought for the hard-shooting defender this season, but it shouldn't come as a surprise. Some regression was expected for Chychrun, who has been scoring at a 12.7 percent success rate, -- that's significantly higher than his career 7.3 percent. Still, he's a solid fantasy play. His 34 points (49 games) put him in the top 15 in the NHL.
