Stars' Casey DeSmith: Gives up four goals Monday
DeSmith stopped 23 of 27 shots in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Ducks.
DeSmith made his first start since Nov. 2 and had a disappointing performance, allowing a season-high mark in goals and posting his worst save percentage of any game in 2024-25. In six outings this season, DeSmith has gone 2-3-0 with a 2.22 GAA and a .914 save percentage, but he's not expected to see many opportunities as the backup of Jake Oettinger.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: Gets starting nod Monday
DeSmith will be between the pipes at home versus Anaheim on Monday, Brian Rea of FanDuel Sports Network Southwest reports.
DeSmith will get the surprise start after No. 1 Jake Oettinger was working in the starter's crease at Monday's game-day skate. It's the first start for the 33-year-old DeSmith since Nov. 2 against the Panthers, with his only other appearance during November having come in relief. On the year, DeSmith is 2-2-1 while sporting a career-best 1.79 GAA, but he shouldn't be expected to see a ton of opportunities this year behind the workhorse Oettinger.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: Perfect in relief
DeSmith stopped all 10 shots he faced in relief of Jake Oettinger in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Jets.
The Jets did all their damage in the first half of the game, and they didn't test DeSmith much over the last 30-plus minutes after the Stars made the change in net. This was DeSmith's fifth outing of the year, and he's posted a 1.79 GAA and a .929 save percentage. He's still not expected to play much, but he could push for a larger role if Oettinger continues to struggle against tough opponents. DeSmith has often started about once a week so far in an effort to keep Oettinger fresh in the starting role.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: Loses, but worthy daily play
DeSmith made 21 saves on 24 shots in a 4-2 loss to Florida on Saturday as part of the NHL Global Series in Finland. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.
DeSmith doesn't get a lot of starts, but he shines when he's in the net. His 2.03 GAA and .922 save percentage are exactly the kind of stats that will help fantasy managers off the bench. Picking up a netminder like DeSmith, who can make successful spot starts, can be a successful strategy in several formats.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: Starting in Finland
DeSmith will defend the visiting crease versus Florida in Finland on Saturday, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.
DeSmith has been a terrific backup thus far for the Stars, as he is 2-1-0 with five goals allowed on 78 shots in three appearances. The 33-year-old netminder will face the Panthers, who toppled the Stars 6-4 on Friday.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: Big win in Beantown
DeSmith made 25 saves in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Bruins.
The veteran netminder was beaten twice from in close after Dallas defenders coughed up the puck behind their own net, but DeSmith got plenty of offensive support to make up for it. He's no threat to Jake Oettinger in the No. 1 role, but DeSmith has been a strong backup to begin the season, going 2-1-0 with a 1.69 GAA and .936 save percentage in three starts.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: In goal Thursday
DeSmtih will get the starting nod on the road against Boston on Thursday, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports.
DeSmith will be making his third appearance of the season, having posted a 1-1-0 record, 1.53 GAA and .941 save percentage in his prior two outings. Looking ahead, Jake Oettinger figures to get the nod versus Chicago at home Saturday before the duo split the Global Series matchups with the Panthers on Nov. 1 and 2. For his part, DeSmith saw action in 29 games last year but may not see quite as many opportunities in 2024-25 due to Oettinger being a workhorse No. 1.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: Saddled with loss
DeSmith turned aside 23 of 26 shots faced during Thursday's 3-2 road loss to the Capitals.
DeSmith gets tagged with the Stars' first loss of the season. The 33-year-old will fall to 1-1-0 after logging a shutout in his first appearance and isn't likely to see a regular workload as long as Jake Oettinger -- who signed an eight-year, $66 million extension Thursday -- is healthy and productive.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: Facing Capitals
DeSmith was the first goaltender off the ice at morning skate, per Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press, and is expected to patrol the visiting crease in Washington on Thursday.
DeSmith was perfect in his first start in a Dallas uniform Sunday, turning aside all 25 shots in a 2-0 victory over Seattle. DeSmith gave up two goals on 24 shots in his only appearance last season versus Washington as a member of the Canucks. The Capitals have scored seven goals in two games this season, scoring twice on the power play in six opportunities, so DeSmith will be hoping his teammates stay out of the box.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: Secures shutout in Dallas debut
DeSmith posted a 25-save shutout in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Kraken.
DeSmith's first start with the Stars was perfect, as he was able to keep the Kraken off the scoresheet. Jake Oettinger has also played well to begin the campaign, so DeSmith is unlikely to get a chance to earn more starts than a typical backup. The Stars don't have any back-to-backs scheduled over the next week. While DeSmith has rarely had the opportunity to carve out large stretches of playing time, he has recorded no fewer than 11 wins in any of his last five NHL campaigns.

DeSmith will guard the home net Sunday against the Kraken, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports.
With Jake Oettinger starting Saturday's home matchup versus the Islanders, DeSmith will make his Dallas debut against Seattle in the second leg of a back-to-back. After going 12-9-6 in 29 regular-season appearances with Vancouver in 2023-24, the 33-year-old DeSmith is expected to back up Oettinger this season.

Canucks' Casey DeSmith: Available to play
DeSmith (lower body) will return to the lineup in Tuesday's Game 5 home matchup versus Nashville, Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650 reports.
Per Batchelor, the starting goaltender for the Canucks will be a game-time decision. Due to the absences of DeSmith and Thatcher Demko (knee), Arturs Silovs made his NHL playoff debut in Game 4, stopping 27 shots in Sunday's 4-3 overtime victory over the Predators. If DeSmith doesn't start Tuesday, Silovs will probably be between the pipes.

Canucks' Casey DeSmith: Out Sunday
DeSmith (undisclosed) will not be available for Game 4 against Nashville on Sunday, Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK television reports.
DeSmith is dealing with a mystery injury but it's reportedly not related to the hit he took from Michael McCarron in Game 3. Arturs Silovs is expected to start Game 4 on Sunday. DeSmith stopped 41 of 45 shots in his two appearances this series and should be considered questionable for Tuesday's Game 5 matchup for the time being.

Canucks' Casey DeSmith: Steadfast in Game 3 win
DeSmith denied 29 of 30 shots from the Predators on Friday, culminating in a 2-1 win to take Game 3.
DeSmith emerged with his first career playoff victory, as he drew his second straight start in place of Thatcher Demko (undisclosed). While the Predators scored with 3:12 remaining in the third period, it wasn't quite enough to flip the script. DeSmith was laser focused while helping his team kill all four penalties, plus he worked against the grain of the Canucks' minus-18 shot differential. Demko has a week-to-week return timeline, meaning DeSmith will likely draw the Game 4 start in Nashville on Sunday.

Canucks' Casey DeSmith: In goal for Game 3
DeSmith will start Game 3 on the road versus the Predators on Friday, Robby Stanley of NHL.com reports.
DeSmith is now the Canucks' top goalie since Thatcher Demko (undisclosed) is considered week-to-week. DeSmith struggled in Game 2 on Tuesday, allowing three goals on 15 shots in a 4-1 loss. The 32-year-old will likely need a bit more goal support from his team, as well as a better performance from himself between the pipes, in order for the Canucks to have a chance to regain a series lead.

Canucks' Casey DeSmith: Takes loss Tuesday
DeSmith allowed three goals on 15 shots in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Predators in Game 2. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.
Thatcher Demko (undisclosed) was out of action, so it was DeSmith's turn in the crease for the Canucks. His first outing of the postseason was poor -- the Predators were opportunistic with their chances early on and successfully bunkered down in the third period to hold the lead. DeSmith was mediocre in the regular season with a 12-9-6 record, a 2.89 GAA and an .895 save percentage over 29 appearances. If Demko remains sidelined, DeSmith will likely need more help from the team in front of him in order to find success as the series shifts to Nashville for Game 3 on Friday and Game 4 on Sunday.

Canucks' Casey DeSmith: Tending twine in Game 2
DeSmith will patrol the home crease Tuesday in Game 2 against Nashville, according to Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650.
DeSmith will get the nod after Thatcher Demko (undisclosed) was injured following Sunday's series-opening victory over the Predators. DeSmith filled in admirably as the Canucks' No. 1 netminder during the regular season when Demko was out due to a knee injury. The 32-year-old DeSmith posted a 12-9-6 record with a 2.89 GAA and an .895 save percentage in 29 appearances. He also stopped 26 shots in a 5-2 win over Nashville on Dec. 19.
