Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Dealing with illness
Lafreniere will not practice Wednesday due to an illness, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports.
Lafreniere has generated two goals and four assists, including a pair of power-play points, in his last six outings. Once J.T. Miller (upper body) is cleared to return, the 24-year-old Lafreniere could be dropped from a top-six role, which will limit his chances of continuing to produce at a high level.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Nets power-play goal
Lafreniere score a power-play goal on three shots in Monday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Mammoth.
Lafreniere has a goal and three assists over two contests in January, with two of those points coming on the power play. It could be another small burst of offense for the winger -- he's earned just one point streak of at least three games this season, but he's in a top-six role that could lead to more sustained success. Overall, he's at nine goals, 24 points (four on the power play), 86 shots on net, 62 hits, 30 blocked shots and a minus-8 rating over 44 appearances.

For the season, Lafreniere has eight goals, 15 helpers, 83 shots on net, 61 hits, 30 blocked shots and a minus-7 rating over 43 outings, putting him on pace for similar numbers to last year's 45-point effort in 82 regular-season contests.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: First goal in eight games
Lafreniere had a goal and an assist in a 7-3 win over the Capitals on Tuesday.
Lafreniere potted the winner at 9:18 of the third when he deflected Artemi Panarin's point shot past Logan Thompson. The goal was Lafreniere's first in eight games (one assist). We don't know if he's the valuable 28-goal, 57-point guy from two seasons ago or simply a 40-42 point replaceable waiver piece. However, at some point, 419 regular-season games seem like enough to inform a decision.

Lafreniere scored a goal on two shots, dished an assist and blocked two shots in Sunday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Golden Knights.

For the season, Lafreniere has seven goals, 17 points, 61 shots on net, 55 hits, 18 blocked shots and a minus-3 rating through 31 appearances. He should continue to fill a top-six role.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Tallies empty-netter
Lafreniere scored an empty-net goal on three shots and added three hits in Friday's 6-2 win over the Bruins.
The Bruins started to make a push in the third period, but the Rangers held them off long enough for Lafreniere's empty-netter to come through as insurance. The 24-year-old winger has two goals over his last three contests after going five games without a point. He's still in a top-six role despite the recent slump, and he has six goals, 14 points, 51 shots on net, 48 hits and a minus-4 rating over 26 appearances this season. He's trending toward production similar to last year's 17-goal, 45-point effort in 82 outings.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Ends point drought with goal
Lafreniere scored a goal and dished out six hits in Monday's 3-2 win over St. Louis.
Lafreniere ended a five-game drought without a point Monday when he scored New York's first goal of the second period to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead. With the twine finder, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft has five goals, 13 points, 48 shots on net and 39 hits through 24 games this season. Despite cooling down since a nine-point run during an eight-game stretch near the start of November, Lafreniere is back on the Rangers' top line and averaging the second-most time on ice of his young career. There are reasons to be both skeptical and optimistic about Lafreniere moving forward, but if he can replicate the stretch of points he had to begin the month, the 24-year-old winger would go back to having solid streaming appeal in most fantasy formats.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Tallies again Wednesday
Lafreniere scored a goal on three shots and went plus-3 in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Lightning.
Lafreniere has three goals and six points over his last four games. The 24-year-old winger was among the Rangers' slowest starters this season, but he appears to be piecing it together now. He's had some good runs that didn't last in previous years, so fantasy managers expecting him to live up to his No. 1 overall status (2020) should probably be a little more patient. Nonetheless, he's produced four goals, 12 points, 40 shots on net, 24 hits, 11 blocked shots and a minus-4 rating over 18 appearances, a pace that puts him in the neighborhood of matching his career-best 57-point effort from the 2023-24 campaign.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Three-point effort in win
Lafreniere scored a power-play goal and added two even-strength assists in Monday's 6-3 win over the Predators.
All three points came in the second period as the Rangers pulled away and secured their first win on home ice this season. Lafreniere benefitted from having his usual center, Vincent Trocheck, back in action, but the 24-year-old winger was also finding a groove on his own, producing two goals and eight points over the last seven contests.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Scores, assists Friday
Lafreniere recorded a goal and an assist in Friday's 4-1 win over the Red Wings.
Lafreniere scored a goal for the first time since the Oct. 9 win over the Sabres. Even though this was the fifth time he cracked the scoresheet in the Rangers' last seven games, it was just the second time he delivered a multi-point effort. Lafreniere is one of several Rangers players who have been struggling on offense. Despite holding a top-six role in the lineup and being part of the second power-play unit, the 24-year-old has only accrued an underwhelming eight points (two goals, six helpers) in 15 games.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Two points in win
Lafreniere had a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over the Sabres on Thursday.
His goal stood as the winner. Lafreniere put the Rangers up 1-0 at 11:43 of the first period when he nabbed a loose puck at the right post and tucked it in behind Alex Lyon. He took a big step back last season (17 goals, 28 assists; 82 regular-season games) after a 28-goal, 57-point breakout in 2023-24. Lafreniere turns 24 next week and is entering year one of a big seven-year, $52.15 million deal (AAV $7.45 million). He has lots to prove.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: First points in six games
Lafreniere scored a goal and added an assist Thursday in a 9-2 win over the Islanders.
The points were his first in six games. Lafreniere has run hot and cold this season, and that's resulted in a step back from last year's career-best 57 points. He has just 45 points (17 goals, 28 assists) in 79 games. Is there a chance he can take that big step forward next season? You bet. And that will make the talented forward available for pennies on the dollar next season. Right now, though, Lafreniere is a risk.

Rangers' Alexis Lafreniere: Ends goal drought Saturday
Lafreniere scored a goal on three shots, dished an assist and went plus-2 in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Blue Jackets.
Lafreniere ended a 14-game goal drought, which started Feb. 5 versus the Bruins. This was also his first multi-point effort since Jan. 21 against the Senators. The 23-year-old winger was limited to five assists during his scoring slump, but he remains in a top-six role for the Rangers. Overall, he's at 15 goals, 38 points, 136 shots on net, 99 hits, 24 PIM and a minus-14 rating over 67 outings this season. With about a month to go in the campaign, Lafreniere looks likely to miss the 50-point mark for the fourth time in his five-year career barring a late surge of offense.

Lafreniere logged an assist and two hits in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Predators.

Lafreniere is up to 33 points, 129 shots on net, 90 hits and a minus-17 rating through 60 appearances this season, a large step back from his career-best 57-point effort in the 2023-24 regular season.
