Senators' Jake Sanderson: Snaps slump with assist
Rotowire
Sanderson recorded an assist in Monday's 4-2 win over the Lightning.
Sanderson set up a Tim Stutzle tally in the first period. The helper ended a five-game slump for Sanderson, who also missed three games with a lower-body injury in that span. The 21-year-old blueliner has had more positives than negatives in his second campaign, racking up 25 points, 100 shots on net, 91 blocked shots and a plus-6 rating through 49 appearances in a top-four role. Just six of his points have come on the power play, so there may still be some room for him to grow his game in that area.

Sanderson (lower body) isn't expected to play Saturday versus Toronto, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Sanderson sustained the injury during Wednesday's 3-2 overtime win over Detroit. He has seven goals, 24 points, 26 hits and 89 blocks in 47 appearances this season. Travis Hamonic's (lower body) status for Saturday's contest remains to be seen, but if Ottawa has to play without Hamonic and Sanderson, then the Senators will likely need to recall a blueliner from the minors.

Sanderson sustained the injury in the first period and was ruled out during the second. He may benefit from the All-Star break -- the Senators don't play again until Feb. 10 against the Maple Leafs, potentially giving him time to heal without missing games if it's a minor injury.

Senators' Jake Sanderson: Commits long term in Ottawa
Rotowire
Sanderson signed an eight-year, $64.4 million contract extension with the Senators on Wednesday.
Sanderson is entering the final year of his entry-level contract, so his new deal won't kick in until 2024-25.
