Capitals' Justin Sourdif: Ruled out Thursday
Sourdif (upper body) will not play Thursday versus San Jose and is still considered day-to-day, according to Sammi Silber of The Hockey News.
Sourdif will miss is second straight contest. The 23-year-old center is having a fine rookie campaign with nine goals, 10 assists, a plus-15 rating and 55 hits over 45 appearances. Sourdif should tentatively be considered questionable for Saturday's game versus Florida.

Capitals' Justin Sourdif: Won't suit up against Montreal
Sourdif (upper body) is day-to-day and will not be available for Tuesday's game against the Canadiens, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
Sourdif got hurt Sunday in Nashville after taking a puck to the face. The British Columbia native's injury is not expected to be too much of a concern, so he may get back into the lineup as soon as Thursday versus the Sharks. The 23-year-old center's first career hat trick was very nearly of the natural variety, as he potted the Capitals' first two tallies late in the first period and their second goal of the second period, with Ryan Leonard sneaking in a snipe just before Sourdif's third. Sourdif has three multi-point performances in the last four games, erupting for five goals and nine points in that span with 10 shots on net and a plus-9 rating. Sourdif delivered two assists in a 4-0 win over Toronto on Thursday.
"Sourdif, I thought, you could make a strong case for that being his best game of the year," Washington head coach Spencer Carbery said after the game. "I thought he was all over the puck." Sourdif has just one other multi-point game this season, which occurred Nov. 24 against Columbus. He's not a fantasy guy -- he has just three goals and six assists in 33 games -- but Sourdif is fun to watch.

Sourdif signed a two-year, $1.65 million contract with the Capitals, the team announced Saturday.
Despite having just four games in the NHL, the Capitals paid a hefty price to bring Sourdif in, parting with second and sixth-round draft picks. Locking the 23-year-old in on this deal was the next piece of business, and now the pressure will be on both team and player for him to earn a spot on the roster and be a meaningful contributor. In his four NHL games, he has recorded only one point and holds a plus-1 rating.
