Johnson scored a power-play goal on four shots and added an assist in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Blues.
Johnson set up Denton Mateychuk in the first period before scoring a goal of his own in the second. There was a little life in Johnson's offense in January -- he earned seven points with 25 shots on net and a plus-3 rating over 15 outings for the month. He's up to six goals, 18 points, 82 shots on net, 28 blocked shots and a minus-9 rating through 53 contests overall, mainly in a middle-six role.

Blue Jackets' Kent Johnson: Two-point effort Thursday
Johnson scored an even-strength goal and added a power-play assist in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Canucks.
The 23-year-old winger had managed just one point, a goal, over the prior 11 games, but Johnson made an impact Thursday by feeding Zach Werenski in the second period for Columbus' third goal before wrapping up the scoring himself midway through the third. Johnson's power-play point was his first of the season, and after a rough beginning to the campaign under former coach Dean Evason, the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft seems to be getting more opportunities under Rick Bowness, skating on the top PP unit in each of the last two games.

Blue Jackets' Kent Johnson: Finds twine in loss
Johnson scored a goal on two shots and blocked two shots in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Golden Knights.
Johnson ended a seven-game point drought with the tally. The 23-year-old has moved around the lineup lately, but he was on the second line with 16:41 of ice time Thursday, his highest total since Nov. 26 versus the Maple Leafs. Johnson has fallen far short of expectations created from his 24-goal, 57-point 2024-25 campaign, earning just four goals, eight assists, 63 shots on net, 22 blocked shots and a minus-12 rating through 42 outings this season. He's shooting just 6.3 percent in 2025-26 compared to 19.5 percent last year -- once he can find a middle ground, he should be a much more consistent scorer.

Johnson has scuffled this season, but he has put together a modest three-game, four-assist streak. He needs to shoot a lot more, though -- he has a single shot in that span, and he's been incredibly unlucky. Johnson is firing at a 5.6 percent success rate this season compared to his career mark of 13.2.

Fantasy managers counting on a repeat of his 57-point breakout from last year have been greatly disappointed -- he has just six points through 26 outings in 2025-26. He's added 46 shots on net, 14 blocked shots and a minus-12 rating, which is not a particularly useful level of production.

Blue Jackets' Kent Johnson: Back in action Thursday
Johnson will return to the lineup Thursday after being a healthy scratch Tuesday in Seattle, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
It was thought that Johnson missed Tuesday's game with an illness, but head coach Dean Evason said that was not the case. Johnson will replace Boone Jenner (upper body) in the lineup. Johnson is off to a mediocre start with two goals, three assists and a minus-eight rating in 15 appearances.

Johnson (undisclosed) is not expected to play Tuesday versus the Kraken, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
The Blue Jackets have been dealing with an illness and could also have some injury concerns, so it's unclear why exactly Johnson is out. Johnson can be considered day-to-day until more information is available. Columbus will get Cole Sillinger and Miles Wood back from their respective illnesses to help fill out the lineup Tuesday.

Johnson has scored in back-to-back games and looks to be shaking off his early slump, which saw him held off the scoresheet in the first four contests. He's at three points, 12 shots and a plus-1 rating through six outings. Johnson has little physicality but should settle in as a reliable source of points and shots throughout the year.

Johnson nabbed a deflection in the crease and scored on a backhand early in the first period. It was his first point through five games this season. Johnson had 57 points, including 22 goals, in 68 games last campaign. It was a solid bounce-back performance from a sophomore season where he had so many things go wrong. Still, Johnson's 19.5 shooting percentage was unsustainable, so expect him to fall back to earth a bit this year.

Johnson is at 24 goals, 57 points, 120 shots on net, 29 blocked shots and a plus-1 rating over 67 contests in an impressive breakout campaign that should allow him to be a top-six player in Columbus for a long time.

Johnson ended a four-game slump with his third-period tally, which got the Blue Jackets within two goals before the Penguins put away an empty-netter. The 22-year-old forward had not gone more than three contests without a point prior to his most recent skid. It's still been a wildly successful campaign for the fifth-overall pick from 2021, as he's racked up 22 goals, 46 points, 104 shots on net and a minus-4 rating over 55 appearances in his third full NHL campaign.

Johnson didn't crack the scoresheet in the 3-0 loss to the Panthers on Thursday, but that has been the lone game over his last eight in which he's failed to record a point. Johnson has been a complete model of consistency for the Blue Jackets in recent weeks and has notched 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) across his last 17 games since Jan. 20. The 22-year-old forward, one of the most promising young players in the league, has 44 points (21 goals, 23 assists) in 49 appearances this season.
