Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Solid effort in win
Sorokin stopped 35 shots on 38 attempts on net in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Avalanche.
Sorokin tended a clean first 28 minutes before he allowed back-to-back goals midway through the second period. Outside of one more goal inside the first two minutes of the third period, he cruised to his second consecutive win. With the victory, the 30-year-old netminder is up to a 9-8-2 record with a .906 save percentage and a 2.60 GAA through 19 appearances this year. His 35 saves Thursday were one stop shy of his season-high, proving he can help guide the Islanders to a run-and-gun win. After a sluggish start to the season, Sorokin has been on fire in his last nine starts with five wins, a 1.81 GAA and a .932 save percentage. He should be rostered in nearly all two-goalie fantasy formats moving forward with the Isles' just two points out of a playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division. His next chance to take the ice is Saturday against Tampa Bay, who would welcome the chance to see Sorokin again after he tended a 30-save statement win over the Lightning Tuesday.

He started on the road against Colorado on Nov. 16, and he allowed three goals on 27 shots (.889 save percentage) en route to a 4-1 loss.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Surrenders three in loss
Sorokin stopped 11 of 14 shots on goal in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to Boston.
Sorokin didn't face many shots and struggled in the defeat. He allowed a shorthanded goal to Alex Steeves midway through the third period, which put the game out of reach for the Islanders. With the loss, Sorokin has a 7-7-2 record with a 2.70 GAA and a .901 save percentage through 16 appearances this season. Despite picking up his second consecutive loss, the 30-year-old twine protector has played at a higher level in November and hasn't allowed more than three goals in a game since Oct. 28. If he can find the win column soon and prove that the past two contests are nothing more than a quick slump, Sorokin's fantasy value should remain high.

For the season, the 30-year-old netminder is up to 6-4-2 with a 2.90 GAA and an .898 save percentage over 12 starts, but he's clearly trending up. David Rittich will start Friday in Utah, but Sorokin is likely to get the nod for Sunday's game in Colorado, which will be arguably his biggest test yet this season.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Shuts out division rival
Sorokin saved all 33 shots he faced in Saturday's 5-0 win over the Rangers.
Sorokin's first shutout of the season was a much-needed strong outing after a sluggish start to the year. Overall, the 30-year-old netminder has a 4-4-2 record with a 3.00 GAA and an .893 save percentage across 10 appearances. After three regulation losses to start the year, Sorokin has only one such defeat in his last seven games. His play is trending upward, and if Sorokin can continue to find the win column every other game, he can be trusted again in most fantasy formats. For now, however, it is good to have a backup plan if Sorokin falls back into a slump. His next chance to take the ice is Monday against New Jersey.
