Blue Jackets' Zach Aston-Reese: Hits waiver wire
Aston-Reese was placed on waivers Tuesday, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
The Blue Jackets are now fully healthy up front, so they have elected to run the risk of losing Aston-Reese and Brendan Gaunce, who was also waived Tuesday, to other teams. Should he go unclaimed on the waiver wire, Aston-Reese will report to AHL Cleveland. The 31-year-old has one goal, five points and 71 hits across 26 appearances in 2025-26.

Aston-Reese scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's 4-3 shootout win over the Penguins.
The veteran grinder opened the scoring early in the first period, taking advantage of a lucky bounce to slide home the puck from the slot after Zach Werenski's point shot was blocked. Aston-Reese had been a healthy scratch the prior four games, but with new coach Rick Bowness wanting to take a full look at his roster, the winger could get some consistent run on the fourth line. Aston-Reese scored against one of his former teams, striking at 2:20 of the first period. He's tallied in back-to-back games and is up to four goals, three assists, 24 shots on net and 32 hits through 15 contests overall. The 30-year-old continues to play in a fourth-line role, but he's been able to see fairly consistent playing time. As he long as he sticks in the lineup, he is poised to reach the 20-point mark for the first time in his career.
