  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Makes 20 saves in loss Tuesday

Thompson stopped 20 of 23 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Blackhawks. Thompson enjoyed a strong start to the game and was absolutely dominant in the first two periods, but he gave up three goals in the final frame, so he had to settle with the loss. This was Thompson's first loss in regulation since Nov. 21, but even considering this defeat, the 27-year-old has delivered decent numbers in recent weeks. Over his last six starts, Thompson has gone 4-1-1 with a 2.33 GAA and a .903 save percentage while giving up three or fewer goals five times. The Capitals seem happy splitting the workload between Thompson and Charlie Lindgren, so the latter is likely to be between the pipes for Friday's matchup against the Hurricanes.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Starting in Chicago

Thompson will protect the road goal versus the Blackhawks on Tuesday, Greg Boysen of CHGO Sports reports. Thompson will handle the second half of a back-to-back after Charlie Lindgren started in a 3-1 loss to the Stars on Monday. Thompson has won four of his last five starts, giving up a total of 11 goals in that span, so he's still a strong fantasy play even with the back-to-back situation factored in.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Bags another win

Thompson turned aside 19 of 21 shots faced during during Saturday's 4-2 hom win over the Sabres. Thompson wasn't very busy against the struggling Sabres, but he did have to dig in following an early goal by Buffalo and performed well enough to improve to a 12-1-2 record in 15 starts. Washington seems content to stick with the even workload between the 27-year-old and Charlie Lindgren, which limits their fantasy upside even though they are automatic starts whenever they get the call.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Facing Sabres

Thompson will be between the home pipes versus Buffalo on Saturday, Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network reports. Thompson is having the best season of his NHL career. The 27-year-old netminder is 11-1-2 with a 2.48 GAA and a .913 save percentage across 14 appearances this season. He will face the Sabres, who are averaging 2.97 goals per game in 2024-25.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Stops 22 shots Saturday

Thompson stopped 22 of 24 shots in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Canadiens. Thompson has gone four straight starts without losing in regulation, going 3-0-1 with a 2.23 GAA and a .910 save percentage in that span. The 27-year-old has been playing well of late, but the Capitals have been splitting starts, so it wouldn't be surprising if Charlie Lindgren gets the nod for Thursday's road game against Columbus. However, with four days of rest between games, Thompson could very well make back-to-back starts for the first time since Nov. 9 and Nov. 13.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Kept team in low-scoring game

Thompson made 29 saves in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Sharks on Tuesday. The Caps were strong in the first and then let their game slide in the second and third frames, leaving Thompson to fend off the better-than-expected Sharks. After the Caps tied the game in the second, the Sharks outshot them 18-6 for the remainder of the game, including 13-4 in the third alone. Thompson, who is 10-1-2 with a 2.52 GAA and a .913 save percentage, has been the strong side of a platoon with Charlie Lindgren (7-5-0, 2.95 GAA and .893 save percentage) and a revelation this season. Expect the two men to continue to split starts going forward, though -- the team will need both men sharp down the stretch to maintain its strong play.

Thompson turned aside 20 of 21 shots faced during Monday's 4-1 road win over the Panthers. Thompson has been paying outstanding dividends for the Capitals since being acquired from the Golden Knights in an offseason trade and has now surrendered two or fewer goals in six of his last seven appearances. Charlie Lindgren is likely to get the nod Wednesday against Tampa Bay given that the Capitals have been evenly splitting the workload to this point.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Saddled with loss

Thompson turned aside 25 of 27 shots faced during Thursday's 2-1 home loss to the Avalanche. Thompson put together another solid performance, but the Capitals struggled to light the lamp in their first game since losing captain Alex Ovechkin (calf) to long-term injury. The 27-year-old Thompson has put together a strong start to his first season with Washington, but he will need to get back in the win column to separate himself from Charlie Lindgren and secure the top spot on the Capitals' depth chart.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Starting against Colorado

Thompson will start Thursday's home game against the Avalanche, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports. Thompson was the first goalie off during Thursday's morning skate, but he was also late getting onto the ice and appeared to be in some discomfort. He appeared to tweak something during Sunday's win over the Golden Knights, but he specified after Thursday's morning skate that he's "all good" and will be between the pipes against the Avalanche. Thompson has been effective over the first month and a half of the season, posting an 8-0-1 record, 2.63 GAA and .913 save percentage over nine appearances.

Thompson stopped 40 of 42 shots in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Golden Knights. Thompson won both of his starts against his former team this year. He faced a lot of pressure in his return to Vegas but stood tall and rode an Alex Ovechkin hat trick to the win. Thompson has been right at home with the Capitals, going 8-0-1 with a 2.63 GAA and a .913 save percentage over nine starts. The Capitals wrap up their current road trip in Utah on Monday, which will likely be a Charlie Lindgren start.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Fades late in OT loss

The Capitals held a 3-1 lead heading into the third period, but they got out-shot 17-7 in the final frame and Thompson eventually buckled, giving up goals to William Nylander and Mitch Marner inside the last five minutes before John Tavares beat him on a breakaway in OT. Thompson saw his winning streak end Wednesday, but the 27-year-old has yet to take a regulation loss in 2024-25, going 7-0-1 in eight appearances with a 2.71 GAA and .906 save percentage.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Slated to start Wednesday

Thompson is set to start in Wednesday's home game against Toronto, per Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post. Thompson and Charlie Lindgren have been in a strict rotation, but for the first time this season, that pattern will be broken with Thompson slated to start for the second consecutive game. Thompson has a 7-0-0 record, 2.55 GAA and .910 save percentage through seven appearances in 2024-25, and he's coming off an 8-1 win over St. Louis on Saturday in which he turned aside 24 of 25 shots. Lindgren hasn't been as impressive, posting a 3-4-0 record, 2.76 GAA and .897 save percentage in seven outings, so there is an opportunity here for Thompson to establish himself as the Capitals' true No. 1 netminder. Toronto will be a solid test given the Maple Leafs' respectable 9-6-2 record. However, Toronto has been a mixed bag offensively -- the squad ranks 18th with 2.94 goals per game -- and it's not clear if Auston Matthews (upper body) will be ready to return for the Maple Leafs.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Sets team record with win

Thompson made 24 saves in an 8-1 win over the Blues on Saturday. Thompson is the first goalie to win his first seven starts with the Caps. He was excellent in the second period when Washington was outshot 11-4, but he could still improve his rebound control. Still, Thompson is well-rested every time he hits the blue paint, and that means he's an exceptional daily play while platooning with Charlie Lindgren.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Expected to start Saturday

Thompson is set to start on the road against St. Louis on Saturday, according to Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post. Thompson has won all of his first six starts while posting a 2.81 GAA and a .903 save percentage. It's certainly helped that the Capitals have provided him with at least three goals worth of support in each of those outings, and Washington tallied a minimum of four markers in five of those six games. The Blues are 7-7-0 and rank 23rd offensively with 2.64 goals per game.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Stellar in win

Thompson turned aside 34 of 36 shots in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Blue Jackets. Despite being staked to a 5-0 lead after the first period, Thompson had to endure an onslaught of 31 shots from the Blue Jackets in the final 40 minutes. The 27-year-old has a spotless 5-0-0 record in his first five games with the Capitals, but he has been locked into a starting rotation with Charlie Lindgren. Thompson is worth an add in deeper leagues and is one of the better spot starts in any format during Washigton's hot start to 2024-25.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Set to start Saturday

Thompson is expected to guard the home net against Columbus on Saturday, per Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network. Thompson has a 4-0-0 record, but that's largely due to the offensive support he's received. The 27-year-old netminder has surrendered at least three goals in three of his four starts, leaving him with a 3.21 GAA and an .876 save percentage this season. The Blue Jackets rank ninth offensively with 3.70 goals per game.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Not sharp in win

Thompson stopped 16 of 19 shots in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Rangers. Thompson didn't play very well, but the Capitals' offense again picked him up to keep his record unblemished at 4-0-0. He's finished with a save percentage under .850 in two of his four outings, but the Capitals have scored 21 goals in his starts this season. Thompson and Charlie Lindgren have alternated in goal so far, which means Lindgren is projected to face the Canadiens on Thursday and Thompson would be lined up for the first half of a back-to-back Saturday against the Blue Jackets.
