  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Five points in last five games

Cowan scored a power-play goal in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Islanders. Cowan has points in four of his last five games (two goals, three assists); both goals and one assist came on the power play. He also has seven shots and five hits. Cowan is auditioning for a top-six role for next season, although he may be best suited for middle-six duty. The Leafs have three games left this season, and Cowan is a solid shot to deliver late season numbers for those who have him rostered.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Adds two helpers in OT win

Cowan recorded two assists, fired three shots on net and served two PIM in Monday's 5-4 overtime win over Anaheim. Cowan recorded the lone helper on William Nylander's tally midway through the third period before later picking up the secondary helper on John Tavares' game-winning goal. The pair of helpers brings Cowan up to 15 assists, 24 points, 84 shots on net, 65 hits and 31 blocked shots across 59 games this season. Monday's performance was his second multi-point outing over his last five games. The 21-year-old winger is a strong player to roster in dynasty-based fantasy leagues and could earn himself a top-six role for the Maple Leafs next season if he continues to flash his skills offensively.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Records first NHL multi-point game

Cowan had a goal and an assist in a 5-2 loss to Ottawa on Saturday. Cowan drove hard to the net and pounced on a rebound just outside the crease for his ninth goal of the season. He also earned an assist on a late second-period marker by John Tavares. It was Cowan's first multi-point game in the NHL. He didn't find the scoresheet in five games before Saturday's contest, but his ice time had been going down again before he logged 18:04 against the Senators. The 20-year-old rookie has 22 points through 55 appearances this season.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Goal in expanded role

Cowan scored a goal Thursday in a 6-2 loss to the Rangers. Cowan stepped into a top-six gig and performed immediately. He has a modest two-game, two-point streak on the go. Cowan is 22nd on the NHL rookie scoring list with 19 points, including eight goals. But he could climb that list quickly if he sticks with John Tavares and Matthew Knies.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Poised for bigger role

Cowan logged an assist and went minus-2 in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Devils. Bobby McMann was scratched for roster management Wednesday, opening the door for Cowan to claim a top-line assignment. If the Maple Leafs succeed in their sell-off before Friday's trade deadline, Cowan is poised to see significant minutes to close out the campaign. The 20-year-old winger has seven goals, 18 points, 66 shots on net, 48 hits and 23 blocked shots over his first 46 NHL outings.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: First goal in eight games

Cowan scored a goal in a 4-1 win over the Panthers on Tuesday. It was Cowan's first goal in eight games. Overall, the young winger has five goals, seven assists and 51 shots in 31 games this season. Cowan is in a five-way tie for 24th in rookie scoring. His future is bright. The Leafs will continue to develop him slowly to ensure he can fulfil his potential in the team's top six.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Chips in rebound

Cowan scored a goal in a 6-3 loss to the Oilers on Saturday. Cowan chipped in a rebound in the first period to tie the game 1-1. He dropped down to the fourth line with Scott Laughton and Steven Lorentz in Saturday's contest. It's an aggressive trio, but Cowan's best work will come in the top six. Long term, he remains a solid keeper. He has one goal on eight shots and one assist in his last six games and has 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 23 appearances this season.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Nets late equalizer

Cowan scored a goal on three shots and added two hits in Wednesday's 2-1 overtime win over the Blue Jackets. Cowan tallied with 3:17 left in the third period to answer a Zach Werenski goal. Over five games since he was recalled from AHL Toronto, Cowan has earned a goal and two helpers, one point shy of matching his total from his first stint in the NHL this season. Overall, the 20-year-old has two goals, five assists, 28 shots on net, 17 hits and a plus-4 rating over 15 appearances. There will be some bumps in the road as the rookie adjusts to the NHL, but he should get sufficient ice time to make his presence felt.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Sent to minors

Cowan was assigned to AHL Toronto on Wednesday. Cowan saw fairly regular playing time with the Maple Leafs over the first few weeks of the year, recording a goal, three assists, 13 hits and four blocked shots while averaging 12:33 of ice time in 10 appearances. The Maple Leafs needed a roster spot to activate Scott Laughton (lower body) from injured reserve in a corresponding move. However, Cowan will be a candidate to rejoin the big club at some point in the season.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Recalled by NHL club

Cowan was recalled by the Maple Leafs on Wednesday. Cowan was sent to AHL Toronto on Monday, but he'll rejoin the NHL club ahead of Wednesday's Opening Night matchup against the Canadiens. The 20-year-old was productive with OHL London last year, recording 29 goals and 40 assists over 46 regular-season appearances before generating 13 goals and 26 assists across 17 postseason outings. He'll likely have an opportunity to make his NHL debut early in the 2025-26 campaign.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Heading to AHL

Cowan was loaned to AHL Toronto on Monday. Cowan contributed two assists and eight shots on goal in five preseason outings, and he will begin his professional career in the minors. However, it wouldn't be surprising if he made his NHL debut at some point this campaign.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Strong game but still no points

Cowan got to skate with his boyhood idol, Mitch Marner, and Max Domi against Montreal on Thursday. Cowan didn't hit the scoresheet but did impress. The trio created eight scoring chances and controlled 84.4 percent of the expected goals at 5v5. But in reality, games aren't decided based on expected goals. Cowan hasn't picked up a point during the preseason. The diminutive 19-year-old must work on his strength -- he got pushed off the puck a few times, and he had the puck stripped a few times by average NHL defenders. But that will come. Cowan needs more development time, but he sure is fun to watch.

  • Maple Leafs' Easton Cowan: Coach impressed with effort

Cowan has impressed Leafs general manager, Brad Treliving, during rookie camp, reports the Toronto Sun on Wednesday. Cowan produced 34 goals and 62 assists in 54 regular-season games last season with OHL London, and he followed it up with 10 goals and 24 assists in 18 playoff contests. He's already shown he can stand out with two strong rookie games versus the Habs freshmen. Cowan is fast with intense compete, and he doesn't cut corners in his own zone. Still, Treliving is a tough customer and doesn't mince words: "He has produced in junior and the one thing watching the rookie games, this guy works. Having said that, he needs to be detailed... He needs to show us that he doesn't [still have junior habits]." Cowan will compete for a bottom-six role in training camp and could get a nine-game audition with the big club. Or stay, depending on his game. He remains eligible to return to the OHL for 2024-25.
