  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Two PP points against Jersey

Sandin scored a goal and added an assist, both on the power play, in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Devils. Both points came in the second period as Washington struck three times in total with the man advantage. The power-play points were the first of the season for Sandin, while the multi-point performance was his first since Oct. 29. The 24-year-old has been a consistent contributor for the Caps, though, and he's on pace for a career-best campaign with four goals and 13 points through 24 games while adding 43 blocked shots, 27 shots on net, 24 hits and a sparkling plus-18 rating.

  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Dishes apple in loss

Sandin registered an assist in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Devils. Sandin was credited with the primary helper on Matt Roy's first goal of the season at 13:52 of the first period. Sandin has been productive in November, getting on the scoresheet in seven of 11 contests, including a five-game point streak between Nov. 8-17. Health permitting, Sandin is on his way to a career year. He's up to three goals, eight assists and a plus-16 rating over 20 appearances.

  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Gets goal in win

Sandin scored an empty-net goal on three shots in Friday's 5-2 win over the Avalanche. Sandin was able to close out the scoring with three seconds left in the game. The defenseman is on a roll with three goals and an assist over his last four contests. The 24-year-old is out of the power-play mix with Jakob Chychrun healthy again, but Sandin is still seeing top-four minutes, which allows him to make an impact at even strength. For the season, the Swedish blueliner has nine points, 18 shots on net, 20 hits, 36 blocked shots and a plus-11 rating through 16 appearances.

  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Scores again Saturday

Sandin scored a goal on two shots and went plus-2 in Saturday's 8-1 win over the Blues. Sandin has scored in back-to-back games while adding a plus-4 rating in that span. As expected, he moved to the third pairing with the return of Jakob Chychrun from an upper-body injury, and it appears Sandin's power-play time has dried up as well. The 24-year-old defenseman has two goals, five assists, 14 shots on net, 18 hits, 34 blocked shots and a plus-9 rating over 14 appearances. He'll have some upside if he can see top-four minutes at even strength, but Sandin's smaller role when the Capitals are fully healthy is not very encouraging for fantasy purposes.

  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Puts away goal in loss

Sandin scored a goal, blocked three shots and went plus-2 in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins. Sandin's first goal of the season got the Capitals on the board in the first period. He's exceeded 20 minutes of ice time in five of his last six games, but his ice time could be in line to drop once Jakob Chychrun (upper body) returns, which could be as soon as Saturday versus the Blues. Sandin is up to six points, 12 shots on net, 34 blocked shots, 18 hits and a plus-7 rating over 13 contests. He should still be an important part of the Capitals' defense as well as a candidate for power-play minutes even when Chychrun is healthy.

  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Puts up two helpers

Sandin notched two assists, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Rangers. Sandin had multiple helpers for the second time in three games. He played a season-high 24:45 after Jakob Chychrun (upper body) left the contest in the first period. If Chychrun misses time, Sandin is the natural option to replace him on the power play, and he'd likely move up to a top-four role at even strength as well. Through eight outings, Sandin has four helpers, nine shots on net, 16 blocked shots, nine hits and a plus-5 rating from a third-pairing role.

  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Registers two assists

Sandin recorded two assists, two shots on goal, five blocked shots and a plus-4 rating in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Flyers. Sandin hadn't gotten on the scoresheet prior to Wednesday, a slump that has seen him slip onto the third pairing. The 24-year-old blueliner broke through, helping out on goals by Taylor Raddysh and Nic Dowd in this contest. Through six games, Sandin has two helpers, five shots on net, six hits, 13 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating. His offense is likely to be limited when he's not seeing power-play time -- John Carlson and Jakob Chychrun have had most of the minutes with the man advantage so far.

  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Set to join team

Sandin (not injured related) is on his way to join his Washington teammates at training camp, according to Tom Gulitti of NHL.com on Tuesday. Sandin should be back on the ice with his teammates soon after missing the start of camp due to a work visa issue. The 24-year-old blueliner produced three goals, 23 points, 79 shots on net, 106 blocked shots and 75 hits across 68 regular-season contests in 2023-24. Sandin will likely occupy a top-four spot and see time on the second power-play unit during the upcoming campaign.

  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Absent from training camp

Sandin is dealing with visa issues and will miss his second day of training camp, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports Friday. Sandin was limited to just 23 points last season after having notched 35 during the previous campaign split between Toronto and Washington. The offseason addition of Jakob Chychrun will create a competition for minutes with the No. 2 power-play unit, which could see Sandin's numbers further dip if he finds himself on the outside looking in. Still, a 20-point campaign is likely the floor for Sandin, giving him decent mid-range fantasy value.

Sandin (upper body) will be a game-time decision Friday for Game 3 versus the Rangers, according to Tom Gulitti of NHL.com. Sandin has missed the last seven games, but he was finally in a regular jersey at morning practice Friday. The blueliner had three goals and 23 points in 68 regular-season appearances. Look for Dylan McIlrath to come out of the lineup should Sandin play in Game 3.

  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Could return Tuesday

Sandin (upper body) may be available versus the Rangers on Tuesday, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports. Sandin is closing in on a return to action after having been sidelined for the previous six contests due to his upper-body issue. If Sandin can play Tuesday, he could draw in as a substitute for Vincent Iorio (upper body), who was deemed day-to-day ahead of Game 2.

  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Returns to practice Thursday

Sandin (upper body) practiced Thursday, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports. Sandin could be back in the lineup in time for Game 1 versus the Rangers on Sunday, but his status is still up in the air. Sandin ended the season with three goals and 23 points in 68 games, missing the last five contests with the injury. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: LIkely done for regular season

Sandin (upper body) is not expected to return to the lineup before the end of the regular season, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports Friday. Sandin will have to hope that his teammates can secure a playoff in order to play again this season. The defenseman is currently stuck in a 21-game goal drought dating back to Feb. 22 versus the Lightning. During that stretch, the Swede has managed six assists, 20 shots and 32 blocks while averaging 20:21 of ice time. In Sandin's stead, Vincent Iorio figures to continue seeing minutes on the blue line.

  • Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Returns to practice

Sandin (lower body) was on the ice for Monday's practice, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports. Sandin was a late scratch for Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Bruins, but his return to the ice is a good sign he could be ready in time for Tuesday's game against Buffalo. The 24-year-old had three points in his previous six games prior to the injury.
