Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Torched for six goals
Silovs gave up six goals on 22 shots in Wednesday's 6-0 loss to the Devils.
Silovs didn't get any scoring help, but the 23-year-old struggled after watching the last five games from the bench. He's now allowed 15 goals on 74 shots while going 0-2-1 over three outings this season. It's been a nightmarish start to the season for Silovs, and he could be at risk of losing the backup job to Jiri Patera while Thatcher Demko (knee) remains on season-opening injured reserve. Patera has gone 1-1-1 with a 2.73 GAA and an .896 save percentage over four outings at AHL Abbotsford this season, and Silovs is waivers-exempt, so making such a switch would be relatively easy if the Canucks deem it necessary.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Expected to start Wednesday
Silovs is slated to start at home against the Devils on Wednesday, per Jeff Paterson of CanucksArmy.com.
Silovs hasn't been in net since allowing three goals on 26 shots en route to a 4-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Oct. 15. The Canucks have been leaning heavily on Kevin Lankinen, who has done well overall with a 4-0-2 record, 2.29 GAA and .920 save percentage across six outings. However, Lankinen has struggled recently, surrendering at least three goals in each of his past three starts, which might be why the Canucks decided it was time to mix things up. New Jersey ranks ninth offensively with 3.67 goals per game, so Silovs is drawing a tough assignment.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Gets little help against Bolts
Silovs stopped 24 of 27 shots in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Lightning, with Tampa Bay's final goal getting scored into an empty net.
He got beaten once in each period, while the Canucks didn't get on the board until the third. Silovs was expected to be the No. 1 in net for Vancouver while Thatcher Demko (knee) was on IR, but so far the 23-year-old has alternated starts with Kevin Lankinen instead. Silovs' 4.50 GAA through his first two outings of the season hasn't made a strong case for more work.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Facing Lightning
Silovs will guard the road goal Tuesday versus Tampa Bay, Ben Kuzma of Postmedia reports.
During his season debut against Calgary on Oct. 9, Silovs stopped 20 of 26 shots in a 6-5 overtime loss. Tampa Bay is coming off a 4-1 victory over Carolina on Friday.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Squanders lead in opener
Silovs allowed six goals on 26 shots in Wednesday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Flames.
Silovs was spotted a 4-1 lead after the first period, but the Flames showed resilience to get back into the game, and the Latvian goalie couldn't match it. The 23-year-old received the first nod in goal over Kevin Lankinen, but it's expected the Canucks will utilize both netminders regularly until Thatcher Demko (knee) can play. Silovs is essentially in an extended audition for the backup role, though he'll need to put together a better performance than he did in this contest to avoid a demotion to AHL Abbotsford.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Set to start Wednesday
Silovs is expected to start at home against Calgary on Wednesday, per Thomas Drance of The Athletic.
Silovs is going into this campaign with just nine regular-season games worth of NHL experience, though he held his own with AHL Abbotsford in 2023-24, posting a 2.74 GAA and a .907 save percentage across 34 regular-season outings. Silovs will compete with Kevin Lankinen for starts to begin the season, but Thatcher Demko (knee) is expected to assume the No. 1 goaltending slot once he's healthy.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Quiets Edmonton in preseason finale
Silovs stopped 28 of 29 shots in Friday's 4-1 preseason win over the Oilers.
Silovs limited the damage to an Evan Bouchard goal in the second period. Over three preseason appearances, Silovs has gone 2-1-0 with six goals allowed on 72 shots. The 23-year-old netminder is likely to open the season in a timeshare with Kevin Lankinen in Vancouver's crease. Silovs will need to play well to keep his spot once Thatcher Demko (knee) is cleared to play -- Silovs is waivers-exempt and can easily be shuttled to AHL Abbotsford if he doesn't give the Canucks a chance to compete in his starts.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Facing Edmonton
Silovs will get the home start Friday versus Edmonton, Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650 reports.
Silovs will play the whole game, according to coach Rick Tocchet. Silovs is currently battling Kevin Lankinen for the No. 1 job in Vancouver as Thatcher Demko is out of action with a knee problem. Silovs was 3-0-1 in four regular-season games with the Canucks last season and was 5-5 with a 2.91 GAA and an .898 save percentage in 10 playoff appearances, as the Canucks lost in seven games in the second round to the Oilers.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Starting Saturday
Silovs will protect the road goal versus the Flames in Saturday's preseason game, Jeff Paterson of CanucksArmy.com reports.
Silovs is slated for his second preseason start, and he is expected to go two periods. The 23-year-old is in line to begin the year as backup to Kevin Lankinen if Thatcher Demko (knee) isn't ready for Opening Night.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Set for preseason action
Silovs was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650 reports, indicating he will patrol the home crease in Tuesday's preseason contest against Seattle.
Silovs posted a 3-0-1 record with a 2.47 GAA and an .881 save percentage in four regular-season outings with the Canucks in 2023-24. He also went 5-5 in the playoffs, allowing 29 goals on 283 shots. If Thatcher Demko (knee) isn't ready for the start of the 2024-25 campaign, Silovs will compete for starts with Kevin Lankinen.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: On ice Thursday
Silovs (knee) participated in Thursday's informal skate with his teammates, Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650 reports.
Silovs was held out of Olympic qualifying matches with Latvia due to knee inflammation but appears to be trending in the right direction. The Canucks may need the 23-year-old netminder to start the season between the pipes, as No. 1 backstop Thatcher Demko is also dealing with a knee issue. For his part, Silovs has just nine regular-season games under his belt but should be expected to see upwards of 30 outings in 2024-25 -- perhaps more depending on how long Demko is shelved. Vancouver kicks off its preseason schedule Sept. 24 against Seattle, which could be Silovs first start of the campaign if his knee is given the all-clear.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Dealing with knee issue
Silovs has knee ligament inflammation and will not play for Latvia in the 2026 Olympic qualifiers, Patrick Johnston of the Province reports Thursday.
After being left off of Latvia's roster on Wednesday, there's now a reason behind Silovs' removal from the team. In Latvia's press release, they made note that this injury would prevent Silovs from performing to the highest of his capabilities. It'll be something to monitor, but this could imply that Silovs' injury isn't overly serious, but rather more of a precautionary move. The 23-year-old is expected to be Thatcher Demko's top backup in Vancouver for the 2024-25 season, who is also currently dealing with a lingering knee issue.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Secures two-year contract
Silovs signed a two-year, $1.7 million contract with Vancouver on Tuesday.
Silovs posted a 3-0-1 record with a 2.47 GAA and an .881 save percentage in four regular-season appearances with the Canucks in 2023-24. He also went 5-5 in the playoffs with a 2.91 GAA and an .898 save percentage in 10 outings. Silovs will likely begin the 2024-25 campaign as Thatcher Demko's (knee) backup.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Loses Game 7
Silovs allowed three goals on 29 shots in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Oilers in Game 7.
Silovs took consecutive losses at the NHL level for the first time in his career, and it couldn't have come at a worse time for the Canucks. He allowed eight goals on 56 shots over Games 6 and 7. Overall, he went 5-5 in the playoffs, allowing 29 goals over 10 contests. It's not a particularly impressive body of work, but it's enough to think Silovs will enter 2024-25 as backup to Thatcher Demko (knee) if Casey DeSmith walks in free agency. Silovs will also need a new contract as a restricted free agent.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: In goal Monday
Silovs will get the starting nod at home for Game 7 against Edmonton on Monday, Sportsnet reports.
Silovs underwhelmed in Game 6, allowing five goals on 27 shots (.815 save percentage). Overall, the 23-year-old netminder is 3-3 with a 3.47 GAA through the first six games of the second-round series versus the Oilers while conceding three or more goals in all but one of those contests.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Falters in Game 6
Silovs allowed five goals on 27 shots in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Oilers in Game 6.
Silovs had his worst outing of the playoffs, squandering the Canucks' first chance to book a spot in the Western Conference Finals. The team in front of him was flat as well, registering a meager 15 shots on net, which is low even by its unimpressive shot volume for the postseason (21.1 shots per game). Silovs is 5-4 with a 2.89 GAA and an .898 save percentage through nine playoff outings. He's alternated wins and losses in the second round, but it's unclear if he'll get the nod at home for Game 7 on Monday or if head coach Rick Tocchet will turn to Casey DeSmith.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: Wins Game 5
Silovs allowed two goals on 23 shots in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Oilers in Game 5.
Silovs allowed both goals in the first period, but the Canucks were able to bail him out with a goal in each frame. This was the first time he limited the Oilers to fewer than three goals during the second round. He's alternated wins and losses over the last five games while surrendering 16 goals. Silovs should be expected to start Saturday in Edmonton for Game 6 with a chance to clinch the series.

Canucks' Arturs Silovs: First goalie off Thursday
Silovs was the first goalie to leave the ice Thursday, Thomas Drance of The Athletic reports, indicating he'll be in goal at home versus the Oilers in Game 5.
Silovs will make his eighth straight start since supplanting Casey DeSmith as the preferred option between the pipes -- at least while Thatcher Demko (knee) is sidelined. In his prior seven postseason outings, the 23-year-old Silovs is 4-3 with a 2.71 GAA and one shutout.
