  • Capitals' Alex Ovechkin: Plates two helpers Saturday

Ovechkin dished out two assists and fired five shots on net in Saturday's 6-3 win against the Panthers.

While Ovechkin's chase of Wayne Gretzky's goal record has been at the forefront of the NHL, it's easy to forget the strong impact he can make as a playmaker. Ovechkin's two helpers were on goals scored across a five-minute span early in the second period. The 39-year-old superstar is up to 24 assists, 59 points and 200 shots on goal in just 54 appearances this season. He should finish the campaign above a point-per-game pace after missing time with a broken fibula. Ovechkin has 25 points over the last 20 games and will remain highly motivated down the stretch as he chases Gretzky's goal record, which should help Ovechkin produce plenty of fantasy value.

  • Capitals' Alex Ovechkin: Now within seven goals of record

Ovechkin scored a goal Thursday in a 3-2 win over the Flyers.

It was Ovie's 888th regular-season goal, which moves him to within seven goals of breaking Wayne Gretzky's record of 894. He took a feed from Aliaksei Protas at the left of the crease and misfired, but it still crossed the line. Ovechkin has 35 goals in 53 games this season and 13 in his last 19 games. Washington has 13 games left in the season.

  • Capitals' Alex Ovechkin: Seven points in last five games

Ovechkin put up an assist Tuesday in a 4-1 win over the Red Wings.

He remains eight goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's NHL record of 894. Ovechkin has three points (one goal, two assists) in his last two games and seven, including two goals, in his last five contests. Overall, Ovie has ripped off 34 goals and added 22 assists in just 52 games this season. His average ice time has dropped to 17:45, which would be a new career low if it doesn't increase by the end of the season, but that is likely what's helping to keep him focused and on record pace. The Caps have 14 games remaining for Ovechkin to break the record.

  • Capitals' Alex Ovechkin: Eight goals from history

Ovechkin produced a goal and an assist in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Sharks.

Ovie capped the scoring midway through the third period by deflecting a Martin Fehervary point shot between his legs and past Georgi Romanov. The tally was the eighth in the last 11 contests and 34th of the season for Ovechkin, and the 887th of his career -- leaving him eight goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time record with 15 games left on the schedule for the Capitals.

  • Capitals' Alex Ovechkin: Distributes three helpers

Ovechkin notched three assists, three shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Ducks.

Ovechkin had a hand in both first-period tallies for the Capitals, as well as an Aliaksei Protas empty-netter, which gave the young forward a hat trick. While Ovechkin's chase of Wayne Gretzky's record didn't get any closer Tuesday, it was still an excellent performance for the Capitals' captain. He had not registered a helper since Feb. 9 versus Utah, but he had seven goals over nine contests between assists. The star winger is at 33 goals, 20 assists, 186 shots on net, 88 hits and a plus-18 rating through 49 appearances this season.

  • Capitals' Alex Ovechkin: Continues chase with empty-netter

Ovechkin scored an empty-net goal and took six shots on net in Sunday's 4-2 win against Seattle.

Sunday's tally marked career goal No. 886 for Ovechkin, which he buried into Seattle's empty net to help seal the win. Overall, the 39-year-old superstar is up to 33 goals, 50 points and 183 shots on net in 48 games this season. Ovechkin now sits just nine goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's NHL record. Despite missing a chunk of time due to a broken fibula earlier this season, Ovechkin is tied for fourth in the league in goals. Sunday's game also marked the 19th time he has produced 50 points in a season. Ovechkin should continue to put up good numbers in fantasy for the rest of this season while he chases history.

Ovechkin scored a power-play goal in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Rangers.

With the Capitals down 2-1 midway through the third period, Ovechkin pounced on a loose puck and buried it behind Igor Shesterkin. The tally was the 885th of his career, putting him 10 away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's once-untouchable NHL record of 894 with 20 games left on the schedule for Washington. Ovie could make history with room to spare given his current pace -- the 39-year-old has an incredible 10 goals and 15 points over his last 12 contests.

  • Capitals' Alex Ovechkin: Pots 30th in march toward history

Ovechkin scored a power-play goal in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Flames.

The future Hall of Famer spoiled Dan Vladar's shutout bid early in the third period with a vintage Ovie one-timer from the faceoff circle to the right of the netminder. The goal was the 30th of the season for Ovechkin and the 883rd of his incredible career, leaving him just 11 tallies behind Wayne Gretzky's all-time record with 24 games left on the schedule for the Caps. Ovechkin has eight goals in his last eight games, as he stays laser-focused on making history.

  • Capitals' Alex Ovechkin: Slings hat trick Sunday

Ovechkin tallied three goals and added nine shots during Sunday's 7-3 win over the Oilers.

Ovechkin made Oilers goaltender Calvin Pickard the 181st NHL goalie he has scored on, and the empty-net goal in the third period brings the "Great 8" to within 13 goals of Wayne Gretzky for the all-time record. It also made Ovechkin the first player in NHL history to record at least 200 goals in three different decades. The 39-year-old has been absolutely dazzling in his 20th NHL season with 29 goals and 46 points in 41 games despite missing over a month of action due to a broken leg. Age is clearly just a number for the Capitals captain, so fantasy managers should keep rolling Ovechkin out regularly as he continues the chase for history.

Ovechkin registered three assists (one on the power play), four shots on goal and three hits in Sunday's 5-4 shootout loss to Utah.

Ovechkin's goal streak ended at four games, but he has four goals and five helpers during a five-game point streak. He's also logged multiple hits in all of those contests and multiple shots on net in 13 straight contests. The 39-year-old winger wasn't able to add a goal to his chase of the all-time record, but a trio of helpers makes for a good consolation prize for fantasy managers. He's up to 26 tallies, 43 points (12 on the power play), 141 shots on net, 74 hits and a plus-18 rating through 39 appearances this season.

Ovechkin scored a goal in Thursday's 4-3 win against the Flyers. It was goal 879 of his career.

He snapped a shot past Ivan Fedotov, going far side from the right circle in the last minute of the first period. Ovechkin is now 16 goals to 895 and overtaking Wayne Gretzky for the most career NHL goals. He has a goal in each of his last four games (six points) and 26 snipes on the season. He also has 12 hits and 14 shots in that span. Ovechkin's longevity is impressive. He's delivering yet another point-per-game pace (40 in 38 games), and he's on his best goal pace in several seasons. Gretzky's record is within reach in 2024-25.

This was his 25th goal of the campaign, and that's a mark he's reached in 19 seasons -- one campaign fewer than the record-holder, Gordie Howe. The only year Ovechkin's missed that threshold was the shortened 2020-21 season. He's now at 39 points, 135 shots on net, 68 hits and a plus-17 rating through 37 appearances after putting away goal No. 878.
