  • Alexander Edler: Announces retirement

Edler will sign a one-day contract with the Canucks on Oct. 11 ahead of his retirement. Edler didn't play in 2023-24, and he'll officially hang up his skates with a ceremonial signing with his original NHL team. The defenseman totaled 104 goals and 334 assists in 1,030 regular-season outings as well as 40 points across 93 playoff games. Edler spent 15 years with the Canucks before playing his last two seasons with the Kings.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Full participant in practice

Edler (upper body) wore a normal jersey during Saturday's practice, Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period reports. Edler missed the final five games of the regular season with an upper-body issue, but it looks like he could be ready to return for Monday's Game 1 against the Oilers. The veteran blueliner has picked up 11 points through 64 contests this season.

Edler (upper body) won't play Thursday in Vegas, Eric Stephens of The Athletic reports. Edler suffered the injury Sunday versus Vancouver and sat out Tuesday's tilt with Edmonton. Edler has not been an offensive force the last three seasons, and has only two goals and 11 points in 64 games this season. Consider him day-to-day.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Not suiting up Tuesday

Edler (upper body) won't play Tuesday versus the Oilers, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports. Edler was hurt Sunday versus the Canucks, and he'll have to miss at least one game. Tobias Bjornfot will draw into the lineup on the third pairing with Edler out.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Injured Sunday

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Hands out assist Monday

Edler notched an assist, went plus-4 and blocked two shots in Monday's 8-2 win over the Flames. Edler has been in the lineup for five straight games, though the Kings haven't had a back-to-back in that span. Over those five outings, the 36-year-old has provided LA with a plus-6 rating, five blocked shots, five hits and two points. He's a steady veteran on the back end, but his 11 points through 59 contests won't make him much of a fantasy option. He's added 102 hits, 96 blocks, 52 shots on net and an even plus-minus rating this season.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Finds twine in shootout loss

Edler scored a goal in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Canucks. Edler had gone five games without a point prior to Saturday. The 36-year-old defenseman has been scratched on occasion to get some rest, with Sean Walker and Jordan Spence also cycling in on the third pairing. Edler has two goals, eight assists, 51 shots on net, 102 hits, 94 blocked shots and a minus-4 rating through 58 appearances.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Earns helper in win

Edler logged an assist, three blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Friday's 3-2 win over the Islanders. Edler has been sitting out one game in each of the Kings' five most recent back-to-back sets, and he occasionally gets scratched at other times for rest. The 36-year-old has two helpers over his five outings in February, but he's not expected to add much offense from a third-pairing role. For the season, Edler has a goal, seven assists, 47 shots on net, 91 hits, 86 blocked shots, 28 PIM and a minus-2 rating through 50 appearances.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Ends slump Saturday

Edler recorded an assist, three hits and two PIM in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Penguins. Heading into the All-Star break, Edler had gone 19 games without a point while adding a minus-3 rating with 40 hits and 36 blocked shots. It took him just one game after the break to snap the slump, setting up Jaret Anderson-Dolan for a deflected goal in the first period. At 36 years old, Edler's days of being a reliable scorer are over. He's at seven points, 88 hits, 80 blocks, 46 shots on net, 26 PIM and a minus-6 rating through 46 appearances.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Point drought reaches 19 games

Edler hasn't recorded a point in his last 19 contests. Edler has a goal and six points in 45 contests this season. He's averaging just 15:12 of ice time in 2022-23, and Edler's been a healthy scratch twice in LA's last five games. As long as his role with the Kings stays at its present level, the 36-year-old is unlikely to make significant offensive contributions. He does have 85 hits and 79 blocks though, which makes him the fourth best player on the Kings in each of those categories.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Scoring drought at 12 games

Edler is on a 12-game scoring drought. Edler has a goal and six points in 38 contests this season, which is down from three markers and 19 points in 41 games in 2021-22. His decreased scoring pace makes sense given that the 36-year-old is averaging just 15:15 of ice time in 2022-23 compared to 18:28 last season. Edler's averaged 15:30 of ice time over his last seven contests, so his role with the Kings hasn't grown meaningfully as the campaign's dragged on. Elder does have 72 hits and 69 blocks in 2022-23, which makes him a significant contributor in those two categories.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Provides game-winning marker

Edler found the back of the net in a 4-2 win against Montreal on Saturday. Edler scored at 9:12 of the third period. That goal put the Kings up 3-0, but because of Montreal's failed comeback attempt, Edler's marker ultimately stood as the game-winner. It was the 36-year-old's first goal and sixth point in 26 games this season.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: No points in five games

Edler is mired in a five-game scoring drought. Edler recorded four assists in five contests from Nov. 12-19, but even with that hot streak, he's contributed just five helpers in 23 games this season. The 36-year-old defenseman is averaging 15:06 of ice time, which is way below his career average of 22:33. At this stage of his career, he's not likely to play a big role with the Kings.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Helpers in back-to-back games

Edler managed an assist, three hits and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Kraken. Sean Durzi (lower body) missed the contest, and Edler stepped up to fill a top-four role with a season-high 20:28 of ice time. The helper was Edler's fourth in the last five games, and he's up to five assists in 18 contests overall. The 36-year-old blueliner has added 17 shots on net, 30 hits, 25 blocked shots, 14 PIM and a minus-1 rating. He'll likely continue in a larger role as long as Durzi is sidelined, but Edler doesn't have much fantasy upside at this point in his career.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Records assist Friday

Edler registered an assist in a 4-1 loss to Vancouver on Friday. Edler has only been held off the scoresheet once in his last four games. It's been a nice run for him, but he still has just four assists in 17 games this season. The 36-year-old defenseman is being used primarily on the third pairing and doesn't have a regular role on the power play, so while he's on a bit of a hot streak right now, not much should be expected of him offensively this season.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Earns helper in win

Edler logged an assist, four hits, three blocked shots and two PIM in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Red Wings. The assist was Edler's second in four games, accounting for all of his offense this season. The 36-year-old has at least maintained a regular role, but he's playing on the third pairing and seeing the lowest ice time of his career. If the Kings falter, Brandt Clarke could be an option to replace Edler in the lineup. Through 14 appearances, Edler's added 14 shots on net, 24 hits, 21 blocked shots, 10 PIM and a minus-1 rating.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Role drops in 2022-23

Edler's ice time has dropped dramatically in 2022-23. Edler averaged an impressive 24:34 of ice time in 2018-19, but his playing time has fallen in every season since. Even in that context though, his drop from 18:28 in 2021-22 to 14:13 through 13 games this season is substantial. He has just one assist in 2022-23 and he's unlikely to contribute much offensively going forward given his limited role. He remains somewhat noteworthy in terms of blocks and hits though with 18 and 20 respectively.

  • Kings' Alexander Edler: Back after three-game absence

Edler (face) had three hits and two blocks in 12:47 of ice time in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Washington in his return to the lineup. He missed three games after being hit in the face by a puck during warmups Monday. Get Edler back in your lineup if you're using him in a deeper format.
