Northern Colorado (3-7) led 67-65 on Chaz Glotta's NBA-range 3-pointer with 46 seconds left, but Denver's Jake Pemberton answered with a layup to tie it at 67 and made the foul shot to give the Pioneers a 68-67 lead. Jake Krafka added two free throws with 26 seconds left to build the lead to 70-67.
DJ Miles, who assisted Dotson on the game-tying 3, made 14 of 15 from the free-throw line for Northern Colorado and finished with 22 points. Jordan Davis added 14 points but committed eight turnovers and was one of three Bears to foul out.
