BALTIMORE (AP) Mike Morsell scored 14 points, including the game-winning layup with 12 seconds left, helping Towson overcome a 15-point second-half deficit to defeat UMBC 73-72 on Saturday night.
Deshaun Morman led the Tigers (7-4) with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
Morsell, who recorded his first career double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds, made a pair of free throws with 49 seconds left to get Towson within one, 72-71. Jairus Lyles' jumper for UMBC was no good, and Morsell's ensuing basket gave Towson its first lead since 59-57 with 6:28 remaining.
Lyles had a chance to win it with a short jumper off a pump fake with a second left but missed the mark.
Will Darley had 22 points for UMBC (7-3), Joe Sherburne had 18, and Lyles had 11 with nine rebounds. The Retrievers shot 43.5 percent (10 of 23) from the arc, with Sherburne making 4 of 7 from long range.
