Celtics' Baylor Scheierman: Retreating to bench
Scheierman won't start against the Pistons on Monday.
The second-year swingman got the spot start in Saturday's win over Atlanta due to Payton Pritchard (ankle) being sidelined, but the former will retreat to the second unit Monday, as Pritchard is back in the lineup. In six appearances off the bench so far this month, Scheierman has averaged 2.8 points and 1.2 rebounds in 9.7 minutes per tilt.

Hugo Gonzalez got the start at power forward with Sam Hauser (hamstring) unavailable, but it was Scheierman who saw more minutes, with the second-year player using the opportunity to score in double digits for the first time since Nov. 26. It's not clear if Hauser will need to miss any more time, but if he does, Scheierman could have some short-term appeal as a DFS punt play.

Scheierman finished Friday's 140-122 win over the Pacers with three points (1-4 FG, 1-4 3Pt), five rebounds and one assist over 20 minutes.
Scheierman saw increased run in this one, logging 20-plus minutes for the first time since Dec. 4. However, he was largely unable to capitalize on the opportunity and has now shot just 23.1 percent from the field over his last seven outings. The Celtics have shown they are not afraid to switch up the rotation, though the second-year swingman's struggles don't bode well for his chances of seeing increased playing time on a regular basis.

Celtics' Baylor Scheierman: Fails to score again Monday
Scheierman notched zero points (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt) and one assist across 15 minutes during Monday's 112-105 loss to Detroit.
Despite playing a handful of extra minutes, Scheierman failed to score for the third straight game. With Sam Hauser suffering an ankle injury, Scheierman was called upon late in the game, although he offered nothing in terms of tangible production. Even if Hauser is to miss time, there is no reason to add Scheierman outside of the deepest leagues.

Scheierman wasn't overly aggressive offensively, but he managed to put together a solid line in the win. Jaylen Brown missed this game with an illness, allowing Scheierman to see extended run with the second unit. Whenever the Celtics are at full strength, it will be tough to rely on Scheierman.

Scheierman amassed 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-5 3Pt), three rebounds and one assist over 30 minutes before fouling out of Wednesday's 117-114 win over Detroit.
Scheierman tallied double-digit points for just the second time this season, logging a season-high 30 minutes. While this was an encouraging performance, it was likely a mere anomaly, seeing as though he had played more than 15 minutes only once in his previous six outings. At best, he should be viewed as a conditional streaming option, if and when the schedule calls for it.

Scheierman had an impressive all-around performance Sunday, although he continued to struggle from distance. Nevertheless, the fact he came two rebounds and two assists shy of recording a triple-double -- while also finishing with a game-high three swipes -- is naturally encouraging.
