  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Moves to injured reserve

The Cowboys placed Sanders (knee/ankle) on injured reserve Saturday.

After Executive Vice President Stephen Jones announced Friday that Sanders was slated for season-ending knee surgery, this move was inevitable. Moving forward, rookie Jaydon Blue and fullback Hunter Luepke will be the options out of the Cowboys backfield behind starter Javonte Williams.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Set for season-ending knee surgery

Executive Vice President Stephen Jones said Friday that Sanders will undergo season-ending knee surgery, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Sanders initially was forced out Week 4 against the Packers due to an ankle injury and then didn't suit up this past Sunday at the Jets due to listed knee and ankle issues. It appears the knee is the greater concern for Sanders following Jones' announcement, and the running back will finish the 2025 campaign with 20 carries for 117 yards and one touchdown and eight catches (on eight targets) for 30 yards in parts of four games. Jaydon Blue will step into the No. 2 role behind starting RB Javonte Williams moving forward.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Out for the season

Sanders (knee/ankle) will miss the rest of the season, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said the team is "fired up" about what Jaydon Blue can do as the No. 2 running back. The rookie had just seven yards on four touches in the first game Sanders missed, with Javonte Williams again dominating backfield work. In any case, Sanders apparently will be placed on injured reserve soon.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Held out of practice

Sanders (ankle) didn't participate in Thursday's practice.

Sanders opened Week 6 prep Wednesday as a limited participant, but his lack of activity Thursday doesn't inspire much early confidence that he'll be able to return from a one-game absence to play Sunday at Carolina. If Sanders isn't available for the matchup with one of his former teams, the Cowboys would likely keep rookie Jaydon Blue active for the second week in a row as starting running back Javonte Williams' top backup.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Limited in practice Wednesday

Sanders (knee/ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

Sanders didn't practice at all prior to being ruled out for Dallas' win over the Jets in Week 5, so it's notable to see that he was upgraded to limited activity. If the veteran running back is able to gain clearance in time to suit up Sunday against the Panthers, he'll join Jaydon Blue as a reserve option behind No. 1 running back Javonte Williams.

  • Cowboys' Miles Sanders: Sitting out in Week 5

Sanders (knee/ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game at the Jets, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Sanders wasn't able to practice during Week 5 prep due to knee and ankle injuries, but a questionable designation left the door open for him to be available to the Cowboys offense Sunday. The proceeding didn't come to pass, though, so Dallas will roll with rookie fifth-round pick Jaydon Blue and fullback Hunter Luepke as the backfield options behind starter Javonte Williams. Sanders' next chance to suit up is Sunday, Oct. 12 in Carolina.
