Chiefs' Jake Haener: Inks future deal with KC
The Chiefs signed Haener to a reserve/future contract Monday, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Haener didn't take a single snap during the 2025 season while serving as the QB3 behind Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler (finger) in New Orleans. Haener -- a fourth-round selection of the Saints in the 2023 NFL Draft -- appeared in eight games (one start) in 2024, when he completed 18 of 39 pass attempts for 226 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Now in Kansas City, Haener will have the opportunity to earn a reserve QB role behind Patrick Mahomes (knee).

Jake Haener: Reverts to practice squad
Haener reverted to the Saints' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Haener was elevated to the Saints' active roster Saturday and ended up serving as Tyler Shough's backup for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Falcons due to the absence of Spencer Rattler (finger). Haener didn't end up playing a single snap during Sunday's loss and did not appear in a regular-season game in 2025. He was selected by the Saints in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but his role with New Orleans in 2026 isn't clear given Shough's strong play to end the regular season and Rattler's presence.

Saints' Jake Haener: Elevated as potential backup
The Saints elevated Haener from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's game against the Falcons, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Haener has spent most of the season on the Saints' practice squad. Due to backup quarterback Spencer Rattler (finger) being listed as questionable for Sunday's game, Haener will likely be the replacement if needed. The 26-year-old would be set to back up rookie Tyler Shough if Rattler ends up being inactive for Week 18.

Jake Haener: Back with NOLA's practice squad
The Saints signed Haener to the practice squad Tuesday.
Haener will return to New Orleans on the practice squad after being let go from the active roster Saturday. Haener would be a candidate to be elevated to the active roster as an emergency quarterback or as a backup if Spencer Rattler or Tyler Shough were to miss time.

Jake Haener: Cut by New Orleans
The Saints waived Haener on Saturday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Haener was cut by New Orleans last week but signed with the team's practice squad after he cleared waivers. If he clears waivers again, it would make sense for the quarterback to return to the practice squad at some point.

Saints' Jake Haener: Added back to roster
The Saints signed Haener off their practice squad Tuesday.
After falling behind Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough in the competition for the Saints' starting quarterback job during the preseason, Haener was cut last week, but he ended up sticking in the organization upon clearing waivers. He didn't have to wait long to land back on the 53-man roster, as the Saints had a spot available for him after releasing safety J.T. Gray on Monday. Haener will still slot in third on the depth chart at quarterback and is likely to remain inactive most weeks while both Rattler and Shough are available.

Jake Haener: Parts ways with Saints
New Orleans waived Haener on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Haener, a 2023 fourth-round pick, entered training camp in competition with Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough for the Week 1 starting gig, but he quickly became solidified as the No. 3 option on the depth chart. He'll likely resurface on the practice squad and serve as the Saints' emergency third-string quarterback, assuming he clears waivers.
