Raiders' Justin Shorter: Inks future deal with Las Vegas
The Raiders signed Shorter to a reserve/future contract Monday.
Shorter spent the first seven weeks of the season with the Raiders' active roster, failing to record any stats over five offensive snaps while also logging 81 snaps on special teams. The wide receiver was then subsequently waived and re-signed to the practice squad after Las Vegas added veteran Tyler Lockett in late October. Shorter will now have the opportunity to train with the Raiders during the offseason and potentially earn another shot with the active roster in 2026.

Raiders' Justin Shorter: Joins Vegas' 53-man roster
Shorter was signed to the Raiders' active roster from the practice squad Friday, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports.
Shorter played wide receiver in college at Florida but attempted to convert to tight end in the NFL. The 2024 fifth-round pick of the Bills played in 10 regular-season games with Buffalo last season but saw action almost exclusively on special teams. Now back at wide receiver, the 6-foot-5 Shorter will provide depth for the Raiders following Thursday's announcement from Amari Cooper that the veteran wideout is retiring.

Shorter was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, but he ended the week with consecutive DNPs due to a back injury. It appears that Shorter is switching positions after playing wide receiver throughout college and in the NFL, as he was announced as a tight end when the Raiders signed him to their practice squad Thursday. At 6-foot-4 and 223 pounds with a 4.55 40-yard dash time, Shorter becomes a very intriguing vertical threat at TE if he can make it onto Las Vegas' active roster at any point this season.

Once a top recruit coming out of high school, Shorter never put it all together at Penn State and Florida before being taken in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by Buffalo. He missed his entire rookie season with a hamstring injury and then dealt with a knee issue this summer. Shorter played 52 offensive snaps this preseason but caught just two passes for 15 yards. At 6-foot-4 and 223 pounds with 4.55 wheels, Shorter has a tantalizing blend of size and speed but has yet to realize that potential.
