Wilson brought in three of six targets for 74 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers' 27-24 loss to the Browns on Thursday.
Wilson capped off a marathon 17-play opening drive for the Steelers with a play that showcased his speed, as the second-year wideout scored from 12 yards out on a shovel pass from Aaron Rodgers. Wilson has at least three catches in each of his first four games, and Thursday's yardage total established a new season high after he'd also done so with his 60-yard tally in Week 3. Wilson also has exactly six targets in each contest thus far, cementing him as a key complementary component of the air attack heading into a Week 5 home matchup against the Colts on Sunday, Oct. 11.

Wilson came out of the gates hot Sunday, securing a 38-yard touchdown from quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the team's opening drive of the game. Wilson stepped into the WR2 role alongside DK Metcalf for Sunday's game due to the absence of Michael Pittman (foot). Wilson is set to see more snaps as an outside receiver during Sunday's game against the Patriots, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
Wilson is set to be the No. 2 wide receiver Sunday behind DK Metcalf due to the injury to Michael Pittman (ankle). The wide receiver saw six targets in total and played on 37 of 67 offensive snaps. Wilson tied with Jaylen Warren for the second-most targets on the team behind DK Metcalf, so he's clearly a part of the passing game. What he will do with that role moving forward remains to be seen.

Wilson caught two passes on five targets for 18 yards during the Steelers' 17-0 preseason loss to the Jets on Friday.
Wilson has been one of the standout players in training camp, but that level of play has not translated to games. Both of the interceptions that Will Howard threw in the second quarter were throws targeted to Wilson, and Mike DeFabo of The Athletic believes that Wilson could have run flatter routes to prevent those turnovers. The 2024 third-rounder is currently listed as the Steelers' WR3 behind DK Metcalf (undisclosed) and Michael Pittman (hamstring), but more lackluster play in games could result in Wilson dropping behind rookie second-rounder Germie Bernard on the depth chart. The Steelers will wrap up their slate of preseason games Thursday on the road against the Bills.

The 2024 third-round pick has just 12 catches on 258 career snaps, but he's apparently making a strong case to stay ahead of rookie second-round pick Germie Bernard on the depth chart. Steelers' Roman Wilson: Coach praises versatility
Head coach Mike McCarthy envisions using Wilson all over the formation, Brian Batko of the Steelers' official site reports.
"He's done a heck of a job inside, and I haven't even talked to him about this yet, but I think we can start working him a little bit more outside, too," McCarthy said of Wilson. "He can line up at X, Z and F, and so far, he's done exactly what we asked." Wilson is competing with rookie second-round pick Germie Bernard for the third spot on Pittsburgh's wide receiver depth chart behind DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman. Bernard got most of the first-team slot reps at Friday's practice, per Alan Saunders of Steelers Now, while Wilson worked mostly on the outside with the second-team offense, which marks a departure from previous practices, when Wilson played primarily in the slot.

While DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman are entrenched atop the Steelers' WR depth chart, Wilson is looking to secure the WR3 job, with his main competition being second-round rookie Germie Bernard. DeFabo notes that in some instances Wednesday, the Steelers put Wilson and Bernard on the field together, with Bernard playing outside and Wilson in the slot. In any case, the player that emerges as the next option behind the top duo may not have a path to steady volume out of the gate this come Week 1, but that could change should either Metcalf or Pittman miss any time.

Steelers' Roman Wilson: Talked up by Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers said Tuesday he has high expectations for Wilson this season, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports.
"I expect him to start to make some splash plays," Rodgers said. "He did in the spring. I expect him to have a nice camp." Rodgers was "practically glowing" when talking about Wilson on Tuesday, according to Saunders. Wilson logged just 33 percent of the offensive snaps in his 13 regular-season appearances last season and was essentially running wind sprints, as he was targeted only 21 times across those games and caught 12 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns. The 2024 third-round pick has a real chance to win the WR3 job behind DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman, however, as Wilson's main competition will be second-round rookie Germie Bernard. New coach Mike McCarthy is also expected to use more three-wide sets and fewer TE-heavy packages than outgoing offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.
