What can Brown do for you?

Well, apparently, hit for average, hit for power, run, field and throw. And, more important to us in Fantasy, hit for average, hit for power, drive in runs, score runs and steal bases.

A burgeoning five-tool talent and five-category star.

It is the immensely talented and properly seasoned Domonic Brown who will be coming UPS to Philly in the second half and delivering on promise. If you can meander through the puns, that is the who, what, where and why. The lone remaining question is when?

"If fans want to see Domonic Brown in an intimate environment like this, they'd be advised to do it early than late," Triple-A GM Kurt Landes told the Lehigh-Valley Express-Times on Wednesday.

Sure, he wants to sell tickets today instead of tomorrow, but the GM might be on to something. Brown could be the offensive infusion a banged-up Phillies team needs after the All-Star break. Chase Utley had thumb surgery and is out until at least mid-August. Placido Polanco needs elbow surgery on bone spurs he will rest for now, then play through before offseason surgery. Those are two pretty important bats in a pennant race.

Not to mention, only recently awaking Raul Ibanez is just .240-6-36-30-1 (.328-.394) through Wednesday. Those are middle-infielder numbers, not those of a corner outfielder, which are especially difficult to swallow when that player is 38.

Meanwhile, Brown has taken off in his brief promotion to Triple-A, homering in back-to-back games Tuesday and Wednesday. He is hitting a blistering .458 with two homers, six RBI, five runs, one steal, a .500 OBP and .792 SLUG through his first seven games in Triple-A. That comes after tearing up Double-A in the first half to the tune of .318-15-47-50-12 (.391-.602).

"(Brown is) just now starting to scratch the surface on his ceiling as a potential major league player," Phillies assistant GM Chuck LaMar told MLB.com. "You don't want to rush him, but you also want to challenge him. It's a very fine line. We've tried to do that with him. We've tried not to rush him, but challenge him. And that's why with the move to Triple-A, we feel like he's going to be challenged and yet, he's not going to be over his head. I think he'll respond."

Clearly, it has worked -- perhaps even better than they could have imagined. There is little left to prove down on the farm for the 6-foot-5, 200-pound lefty swinging right fielder at age 22.

"It's fantastic how high his bar is," Landes gushed to the Triple-A affliate's hometown paper. "A kid like him, the ceiling is unlimited."

The Phillies knew they were going to have a difficult decision to make in the second half as early as this spring, when they allowed Brown to hang around major league camp a bit longer than anticipated. They wanted to get a real good look of what they had because Jayson Werth is in a contract year and Ibanez is ... well ... he is a banged-up 38-plus year old.

"The kid has tremendous eye-hand coordination," Philles manager Charlie Manuel said of Brown this spring when he was sent out of camp. "He's going to be a good player. He's good right now. He's going to get better."

Brown will be among the top talents on display in the Futures Game, the annual opener of the All-Star Week festivities in Anaheim on July 11, just 10 days from now. Below are the up-to-date rosters of the U.S. and World teams. You will recognize far more of the U.S. player names, mostly because scouting is best on the mainland and Baseball America is Baseball America not Baseball World. (We tend to pick the U.S. team every year for its future star name power, but the World team usually wins because the overseas talent is generally more advanced, if not recognizable.)

We have marked some of our favorites to watch with an arrow. Names like Hellickson, Hudson, Moustakas and Jennings already have high profiles in Fantasy Baseball's long-term keeper leagues, evidence by their ownership percentages on CBSSports.com. Prospect names Lyles, Minor, Trout, Castro and Teheran are going to be rising in those ranks in the coming weeks.

Minor, a 2009 first-round pick, and Teheran are the most intriguing arms to watch. The elite Braves pitching prospects are going to be among the top 10 in BA's top 100 next spring, along with Hellickson and Moustakas.

Jennings, Trout and Conger are interesting position players to watch. Save for Brown, of course, if he even makes it to the game. The Phillies could come calling beforehand, like Justin Verlander in 2005.
