    Singleton (illness) is starting at first base and batting sixth Tuesday in San Diego, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. SIngleton missed Monday's game due to illness after he was a late scratch for Sunday's matchup with the Angels. With his return to the lineup, Victor Caratini is back on the bench.

It's the first multi-hit game in over a month for Singleton -- he'd gone just 10-for-46 (.217) in his previous 20 contests, though he posted a solid .858 OPS with four home runs in that span. Overall, Singleton's slashing .239/.322/.393 with 13 homers, 38 RBI and 45 runs scored in 376 plate appearances.

Singleton had started at first base in both of the Astros' previous two matchups with right-handed pitchers, but he'll give way to Victor Caratini while righty Ryne Nelson takes the hill for Arizona in the series finale. With an OPS of .694 since the All-Star break, Singleton hasn't done enough to fully solidify a strong-side platoon role, though he's still likely to see the majority of the starts at first base down the stretch.
