Yelich is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets. The Mets are starting a left-hander in Zac Thornton, offering the Brewers a chance to get the lefty-swinging Yelich off his feet for a day. William Contreras will be used in the designated hitter spot, and Gary Sanchez will do the catching.

Yelich is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in St. Louis. Yelich started the previous eight games -- including both legs of a doubleheader Tuesday -- so he will get some rest in the series finale. Jake Bauers will occupy the designated hitter slot Thursday, and Andrew Vaughn will get a start at first base.

Yelich went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of the Cardinals. The veteran slugger led off the twin bill with a ground-rule double before driving in runs with a single in the third inning and another two-bagger in the seventh. It was an encouraging effort from Yelich, but after he went 0-for-5 with another RBI in the nightcap, he's batting just .138 (4-for-29) to begin July with a homer, a steal, three runs and five RBI over seven games.

Yelich went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Diamondbacks. Yelich had gone 0-for-12 over his previous four games, though he did draw five walks in that span. His lone hit Saturday was a fifth-inning homer off Merrill Kelly that got the Brewers on the board. Yelich is now batting .246 with a .720 OPS, six homers, 28 RBI, 40 runs scored, six stolen bases, 10 doubles and a triple over 54 contests this season.

Yelich is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Cincinnati. As left-hander Andrew Abbott takes the mound for the Reds, Milwaukee will give Yelich his second rest of the series. William Contreras will take over as the designated hitter and bat third in the third game of a four-game set.
