McGuire announced his retirement Saturday. McGuire threw 51.2 major-league innings for the Reds, Blue Jays and Angels, recording a 5.23 ERA. He last pitched in the majors in 2018, spending the years since then pitching in the KBO, the Atlantic League and Triple-A.

McGuire signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Thursday and was assigned to Triple-A Louisville. He debuted for Louisville on Saturday, covering 4.1 innings while giving up five earned runs on four hits and two walks. The 32-year-old right-hander previously made 27 big-league appearances with the Reds, Blue Jays and Angels between the 2017 and 2018 seasons, logging a 5.23 ERA and 1.47 WHIP across 51.2 innings. He most recently pitched in the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball with the Gastonia Honey Hunters before landing the minor-league deal with Cincinnati.

The Rays released McGuire last week, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. One of 25 minor-league players let go by Tampa Bay, McGuire will presumably try to find work either with another organization or in a foreign league due to the uncertainty that a minor-league season will be held in 2020. McGuire returned to North America after spending the 2019 season in the Korea Baseball Organization as a member of the Samsung Lions, with whom he posted a 5.05 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 112.1 innings.

The Rays reassigned McGuire to their minor-league camp Thursday, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports. The non-roster invitee never had much hope to break camp for a Rays squad that's overflowing both with rotation and bullpen depth. He'll likely begin the season with Triple-A Durham.

McGuire signed a minor-league deal with the Rays on Friday that includes an invite to big-league camp, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. McGuire spent the 2019 season in the Korean Baseball Organization with the Samsung Lions, but he struggled in 21 starts with a 5.05 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 100:66 K:BB over 112.1 innings. The 30-year-old is a longshot to make Tampa Bay's Opening Day roster, but he could still provide organizational depth as a starter or long reliever.
