  • Jace Peterson: Begins post-playing career
    By RotoWire

Peterson recently accepted a position with the Brewers organization in a special advisory role, signaling the end of his playing career, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The 34-year-old utility player had been a free agent since being released by the Diamondbacks last April. Peterson logged 2,779 plate appearances over parts of 11 seasons in the big leagues, slashing .226/.317/.335 with 42 home runs, 276 runs, 245 RBI and 77 stolen bases across stops with San Diego, Atlanta, Baltimore, the Yankees, Milwaukee, Oakland and Arizona.

  • Jace Peterson: Issued release
    By RotoWire

Peterson was released by the Diamondbacks on Monday, per MLB's transaction log. Peterson was designated for assignment Friday, and he'll hit the open market after failing to draw interest elsewhere. He went 1-for-22 with one RBI and two runs over 14 appearances prior to being released.

  • The Diamondbacks designated Peterson for assignment Friday. Peterson was unable to make the most of his opportunities after shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) was placed on the 10-day IL on April 7. Peterson hasn't recorded a hit since April 5, and he has reached base just four times over 26 plate appearances this season. In a corresponding move, the Diamondbacks recalled Pavin Smith from Triple-A Reno.

  • Peterson started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 in Thursday's 5-0 loss to the Giants. Peterson, who extended a hitless run to 18 at-bats, made just his fourth start of the season. The lack of opportunities may explain his .045 batting average. At the time of shortstop Geraldo Perdomo's knee injury earlier this month, the lefty-hitting Peterson was in position to fill a strong side of a platoon, but that never materialized. Both Kevin Newman and Blaze Alexander continue to get work against right-handers.

  • Peterson started at shortstop and went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to Atlanta. With primary shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) dealing with right knee discomfort -- and expected to undergo an MRI on Saturday -- the lefty-hitting Peterson filled in at shortstop against Atlanta right-hander Spencer Strider. Peterson was eventually pinch hit for by Blaze Alexander in the eighth inning against lefty Aaron Bummer. It's unclear how long Perdomo will be unavailable, and shortstop should be covered by a combination of Peterson (against righties) and Alexander (lefties). Atlanta is throwing left-hander Max Fried on Saturday.
