Fried kept the Nationals off the scoreboard through two frames, but he gave up at least one run in each of the following three innings. The 11 hits allowed by the southpaw tied a season-worst mark, and the outing snapped a five-game streak of yielding three or fewer runs. Fried did at least manage to continue to eat up innings, as he's now gone at least six frames in four of his past five starts.

After posting a mediocre 4.96 ERA across 32.2 August innings, Fried returned to ace form in this 104-pitch performance, generating an impressive 16 whiffs en route to his eight punchouts. The Atlanta southpaw picked up his 13th quality start, as he's now pitched to a 3.35 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 138:51 K:BB over 147.2 innings this season. Fried currently projects to make his next start against the Nationals on the road next week.

Fried has walked three or more batters in four of his six starts since returning from a forearm injury. This was his second quality start in that span, though he gave up two solo home runs and an RBI double. The southpaw is now at a 3.52 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 130:50 K:BB over 140.2 innings over 24 starts this season, but he posted a mediocre 4.96 ERA across 32.2 innings in August. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Blue Jays.

Fried (8-7) yielded three runs (one earned) on four hits over five innings Monday, striking out seven and earning a win over Minnesota. Fried gave up a run in the first inning and held the Twins in check until they plated two unearned runs in the fifth. It was Fried's first win since June 23, snapping an 0-4 skid over his previous seven appearances. He's produced a 5.26 ERA across five starts this month since returning from the injured list. While Fried has been shaky throughout the year and hasn't quite looked like his usual self, he still owns a solid 3.50 ERA with a 126:46 K:BB through 133.2 innings. His next start is projected to be in Philadelphia this weekend.
