  • Braves' Gio Urshela: Back in lineup
    By RotoWire

Urshela (groin) is batting ninth and playing third base Friday against the Phillies. Urshela had been absent from the starting lineup in back-to-back games due to minor groin soreness. However, he's been given the green light to play Friday. In eight games since being picked up by Atlanta to fill in for Austin Riley (hand) at third base, Urshela has gone 9-for-31 (.290) with two RBI and a run scored.

  • Braves' Gio Urshela: Getting night off
    By RotoWire

Urshela is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Minnesota. Urshela had made eight straight starts after joining Atlanta's roster Aug. 20 but will get a breather during Wednesday's series finale. Luke Williams is receiving a rare start at third base.

  • Urshela will start at third base and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Twins. Since finalizing a one-year contract with Atlanta last Tuesday, Urshela has quickly settled into an everyday role at third base. He'll draw a seventh consecutive start Monday after going 6-for-22 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and one run in first six games with Atlanta.

  • Urshela went 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Tuesday's win over the Phillies. Signed earlier in the day following the news that Austin Riley (hand) could miss the rest of the regular season, Urshela was immediately inserted into Atlanta's starting lineup as the third baseman and batted eighth. While he didn't do much with his bat, the 32-year-old played steady defense and drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning that provided an insurance run in a 3-1 victory. Urshela struggled earlier in the season with Detroit, slashing .243/.286/.333 in 325 plate appearances with five homers and 37 RBI, but Atlanta has a track record of picking veterans off the scrap heap and turning them into surprising contributors to a playoff push, with Eddie Rosario's NLCS MVP Award in 2021 being perhaps the most notable example.

  • Urshela is nearing a major-league contract with Atlanta, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Urshela was cut loose by Detroit over the weekend, but it looks like he's found a prime opportunity in Atlanta, where he would take over at third base for the injured Austin Riley (hand). The veteran infielder slashed just .243/.286/.333 in 92 games for the Tigers, but the 32-year-old entered the year as a career .277/.322/.423 hitter and Atlanta would be betting on a bounce-back effort.
