Knapp cleared waivers Saturday and was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento. Knapp was DFA'd by the Giants just six days after he signed a major-league contract with the team Aug. 23, and he'll now be sent to Sacramento to serve as an organizational depth piece. The 32-year-old went 1-for-6 during his time in San Francisco.

The Giants designated Knapp for assignment Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Knapp served as the backup catcher behind Curt Casali while Patrick Bailey was on the 10-day injured list. With Bailey back in tow, Knapp will head to waivers.

The Giants signed Knapp to a major-league contract Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. He's catching and batting ninth against the Mariners on Friday. Knapp hasn't seen any MLB action since 2022, spending the 2023 season at the Triple-A level in the Astros and Tigers organizations and appearing in 81 games for the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate this season before opting out of his minor-league deal July 1. He slashed .294/.383/.457 at Triple-A this year and will serve as the backup to Curt Casali while Patrick Bailey (oblique) is on the shelf. Bailey is expected to return by the end of August.

The Rangers released Knapp on Monday, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports. Knapp's minor-league contract with the Rangers contained a July 1 opt-out and the veteran catcher has decided to exercise it. The 32-year-old has slashed .292/.374/.444 with six homers in 60 games with Triple-A Round Rock this season. Knapp has a career .623 OPS in parts of six big-league seasons and hasn't seen any action in the majors since 2022.

Knapp signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training. Knapp spent all of the 2023 season at the Triple-A level between the Tigers and Astros organizations, posting a .705 OPS with nine homers. He's slashed .209/.310/.313 over parts of six seasons in the majors and will compete for the right to back up Jonah Heim at catcher.
