  • Mets' Dylan Covey: Signs MLB deal with Mets
    By RotoWire

Covey signed a one-year, major-league contract with the Mets on Thursday. Covey spent the first four months of last season working his way back from a shoulder injury he suffered in spring training with the Phillies. After beginning his rehab assignment in late July, he turned in a 2.66 ERA and 1.23 WHIP across 20.1 innings split between three different minor-league affiliates. He was unable to make an appearance in the majors last year, but he'll immediately get a chance to contribute to the Mets' bullpen in 2025, likely as a middle reliever.

  • Covey (shoulder) surrendered three earned runs on two hits and two walks while pitching one-third of an inning in his first rehab appearance Sunday for Single-A Clearwater. Making his first appearance at any level in 2024 after having been sidelined since spring training with a right shoulder strain, Covey unsurprisingly exhibited some rust. He allowed each of the first four runners he faced to reach base, though he was able to end his first rehab appearance on a high note by recording a strikeout. Covey tossed 20 pitches Sunday and won't need to get stretched out much further beyond that, but because he's been on the injured list all season, he'll likely to make several appearances in the minors and eventually move his assignment to Triple-A Lehigh Valley before being activated. He'll be ticketed for a low-leverage role out of the Philadelphia bullpen upon his reinstatement from the IL.

  • Phillies' Dylan Covey: Resumes mound work
    By RotoWire

Covey (shoulder) was cleared to resume throwing bullpen sessions at extended spring training in Florida over the weekend, MLB.com reports. Covey was able to get back on the mound for the first time since making his final Grapefruit League appearance March 1 before being shut down with a right shoulder strain. As a reliever, Covey won't require as extensive of a buildup program as a starting pitcher would, but the right-hander is still likely at least a couple weeks away from being ready to return from the 15-day injured list.

  • Philadelphia placed Covey on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right shoulder strain. Covey hadn't made any Grapefruit League appearances since March 1 after experiencing tightness in his right shoulder, so he could need more than the minimum 15 days to get fully ramped up and complete a minor-league rehab assignment. The veteran righty is expected to serve as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen once he's ready to make his season debut.

  • Covey signed a one-year contract with the Phillies on Friday, avoiding arbitration. Covey was claimed off waivers from the Dodgers this past May and went on to deliver a solid 3.69 ERA across 39 innings of work with Philly. He projects to fill a long-relief role in 2024.
