The Astros released Diaz on Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Roughly a month after reuniting with Houston, Diaz will now be let go in order to make room for Shay Whitcomb, who was promoted from Triple-A in a corresponding move. The 34-year-old Diaz appeared in only two games while with the Astros, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. He'll now presumably look to latch on with another organization on a minor-league deal.

The Astros selected Diaz's contract Monday. Diaz joined the Astros on a minor-league contract July 13 after being released by the Athletics one week prior. He'll be starting up his second stint in the big leagues with Houston, after previously appearing in 262 contests between 2019 and 2022. Before Oakland cut him loose, the 33-year-old utility man logged 30 plate appearances in the big leagues this season, slashing .103/.133/.103 with no extra-base hits.

Diaz signed a minor-league contract with the Astros on Saturday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Diaz was let go by the A's last week after posting a .236 OPS in 30 major-league plate appearances, but he'll now receive another opportunity with the Astros. He'll report to the team's complex in Florida in order to work on his mechanics before likely moving to Triple-A Sugar Land to fill in as organizational depth.

The Athletics released Diaz on Saturday. After being designated for assignment Tuesday, Diaz will now enter the open market and attempt to latch on with another organization -- likely on a minor-league contract. The 33-year-old posted a lowly .236 OPS in 30 plate appearances while in Oakland this year, and he is unlikely to have much of an impact in the majors at this stage in his career.

The Athletics designated Diaz for assignment Tuesday. Diaz has gone just 3-for-29 in 12 games with the A's this season, and his poor performance has now officially caused him to lose his 40-man roster spot. The 33-year-old owns just a .621 OPS over 32 plate appearances in the minors this season, making it likely he passes through waivers unclaimed. Brett Harris was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move.
