Cooper announced Sunday via his personal Instagram account that he has retired from professional baseball. Cooper began the 2025 season at Triple-A Gwinnett in the Atlanta organization, but he was released in May and never caught on with a new team after that. The 34-year-old played in parts of eight major-league seasons, finishing with a solid .265/.333/.427 batting line and 57 home runs. Cooper made one All-Star team in 2022 with the Marlins.

Atlanta released Cooper on Sunday. Cooper inked a minor-league contract over the offseason but has been cut loose after slashing just .228/.312/.309 in 35 games with Triple-A Gwinnett. The 34-year-old will now be on the lookout for another minor-league deal elsewhere.

Cooper agreed to a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Sunday that includes an invitation to big-league spring training, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Cooper had a .566 OPS in 36 games between the Red Sox and Cubs last season and spent much of the campaign at Triple-A Norfolk in the Orioles organization. The 34-year-old has experience at first base and in the corner outfield, but he'll likely need a strong showing in spring training to have a chance of making the Opening Day roster.

The Orioles signed Cooper to a minor-league contract Monday, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports. Cooper was cut loose by the Red Sox earlier this month after slashing just .206/.267/.299 between his time there and with the Cubs. The 33-year-old sports a solid .265/.333/.427 line for his career, but finding playing time on the big-league roster with the Orioles could be a tall task.

The Red Sox released Cooper on Friday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports. Cooper cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and is now free to sign on with a new organization. The 33-year-old has slashed just .206/.267/.299 between the Cubs and Red Sox this season, but with a career .265/.333/.427line he should draw some interest in free agency.
