    By RotoWire

Cooper announced Sunday via his personal Instagram account that he has retired from professional baseball. Cooper began the 2025 season at Triple-A Gwinnett in the Atlanta organization, but he was released in May and never caught on with a new team after that. The 34-year-old played in parts of eight major-league seasons, finishing with a solid .265/.333/.427 batting line and 57 home runs. Cooper made one All-Star team in 2022 with the Marlins.

Atlanta released Cooper on Sunday. Cooper inked a minor-league contract over the offseason but has been cut loose after slashing just .228/.312/.309 in 35 games with Triple-A Gwinnett. The 34-year-old will now be on the lookout for another minor-league deal elsewhere.

  • Cooper agreed to a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Sunday that includes an invitation to big-league spring training, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Cooper had a .566 OPS in 36 games between the Red Sox and Cubs last season and spent much of the campaign at Triple-A Norfolk in the Orioles organization. The 34-year-old has experience at first base and in the corner outfield, but he'll likely need a strong showing in spring training to have a chance of making the Opening Day roster.

The 33-year-old sports a solid .265/.333/.427 line for his career, but finding playing time on the big-league roster with the Orioles could be a tall task.
