  • Holmes (2-0) was credited with the win in Tuesday's 3-1 victory over the Phillies, striking out two over two perfect innings of relief. Bumped back to the bullpen upon the return of Reynaldo Lopez from the injured list, Holmes wound up taking over for Lopez in the sixth inning Tuesday and become the pitcher of record when Atlanta took the lead in the bottom of the frame. Holmes has pitched well in a swingman role in his first MLB campaign, and the 28-year-old righty has a 3.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 49:10 K:BB through his first 47 big-league innings.

  • Braves' Grant Holmes: Moving to bullpen
    By RotoWire

Manager Brian Snitker said Tuesday that Holmes will move to the bullpen to fill a multi-inning role, Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game Atlanta reports. Holmes had made four consecutive starts for Atlanta, going 1-0 with a 4.57 ERA and a 26:5 K:BB across 21.2 innings. However, with Reynaldo Lopez healthy, Holmes will shift into the bullpen. In 10 relief appearances, Holmes has logged a 2.70 ERA across 23.1 innings.

  • Braves' Grant Holmes: Earns first win
    By RotoWire

Holmes (1-0) picked up the win over the Giants on Wednesday, allowing two runs on eight hits and one walk over seven innings while striking out six. Holmes didn't get off to the start he'd hoped for, surrendering a leadoff home run to Tyler Fitzgerald on the first pitch he threw before also allowing a single in the opening frame. However, the right-hander recovered nicely, keeping the Giants off the board before allowing an RBI single in the seventh. It marked Holmes' first win on the campaign, and he's now recorded at least six strikeouts in three of his last four starts. On the downside, he's also allowed multiple runs in three consecutive outings and has coughed up a long ball in four straight games.

  • Holmes did not factor into the decision in Friday's 6-5 loss to Colorado, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out eight. Despite generating an impressive 21 whiffs, the 28-year-old rookie couldn't contain the Rockies in his first appearance at Coors Field. After this performance, Holmes' ERA since joining the rotation July 29 has ballooned to 5.52 in 14.2 innings across three starts. However, he has been a solid contributor in the strikeout department, generating 20 Ks against four walks over that span. Holmes is currently scheduled to make his next outing in San Francisco next week.

  • Braves' Grant Holmes: Staying in rotation
    By RotoWire

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Tuesday that Holmes will remain in the rotation as the club's No. 5 starter in the wake of Reynaldo Lopez (forearm) landing on the injured list, Lindsay Crosby of AthlonSports.com reports. Though Lopez hadn't pitched since July 28, Atlanta had been holding out hope for a little over a week that the right-hander would avoid a stint on the IL before he was finally deactivated Monday. Holmes had already made starts in his last two appearances while Max Fried (forearm) was on the shelf, and though Fried has since been activated, Lopez's absence will extend Holmes' run in the rotation. Since receiving his first MLB call-up in mid-June, Holmes has compiled a 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 33:6 K:BB in 33 innings over 12 appearances. Despite his quality numbers between the bullpen and rotation, Holmes doesn't profile as an appealing streaming option for his next start, which is expected to fall this weekend against the Rockies at hitter-friendly Coors Field.
