Anderson elected free agency Tuesday. One day after he was outrighted off Atlanta's 40-man roster, Anderson decided to pursue opportunities elsewhere rather than accepting a minor-league assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett. The 31-year-old saw action in just three games for Atlanta prior to being cut loose, going hitless with two strikeouts in five plate appearances.

Atlanta outrighted Anderson to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. After being reinstated from the 10-day injured list this past Wednesday, Anderson appeared in just one of Atlanta's subsequent five games before being pushed off the 40-man roster. Atlanta will announce a replacement for Anderson on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster prior to their first game out of the All-Star break Friday versus the Cardinals.

The 31-year-old landed on the shelf in late June with a bacterial infection and will rejoin the active roster after a three-game rehab stint with Triple-A Gwinnett. Anderson signed a big-league contract with Atlanta in early June but saw action in just three games prior to landing on the injured list.

Anderson (illness) was sent to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday to begin a rehab assignment. Anderson has been out since late June with a bacterial infection but is feeling well enough to play in games again. He shouldn't require many rehab at-bats before being activated.

Anderson is not with the team due to a lower-body bacterial infection, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Anderson hasn't been with Atlanta on the team's current road trip, and it sounds as though he'll remain out for at least a few more days. "So, he hasn't been with us the whole way, but we're just hoping that at some point, we get him back," said manager Brian Snitker. Anderson remains on the active roster, which means Atlanta is playing down a man.
