  • The Yankees re-signed Yarbrough to a one-year contract Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Per Buster Olney of ESPN, the deal is worth $2.5 million. Yarbrough made eight starts and 11 relief appearances for the Yankees in 2025, finishing with a 4.36 ERA and 55:19 K:BB over 64 regular-season innings. With the Yankees having several pitchers expected to begin the season on the injured list, the southpaw's versatility could come in handy.

  • Yarbrough earned the save in Thursday's 9-3 win over the Tigers, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two across three innings. Cam Schlittler limited the Tigers to one run over the first six innings, and Yarbrough took care of the rest across the final three frames of Thursday's win. With Yarbrough being used in long relief to close out Thursday's game, the Yankees will have a fresh set of bullpen arms out for Friday's series opener against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Yarbrough has a 3.82 ERA and 1.15 WHIP across 63.2 innings this season.

  • The Yankees activated Yarbrough (oblique) from the 15-day injured list Monday. Yarbrough had been on the shelf since June 22 due to a strained right oblique, but he's been cleared to rejoin the Yankees after delivering a 4.09 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 12:1 K:BB in 11 innings over three rehab appearances with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The southpaw had been working out of the rotation prior to being shelved, but with rookie Cam Schlittler excelling of late as the Yankees' fifth starter, manager Aaron Boone confirmed last week that Yarbrough will work out of the bullpen upon his return.

  • Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that Yarbrough (oblique) will be used out of the bullpen once he's activated from the 15-day injured list, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. Before landing on the injured list June 22 due to a right oblique strain, Yarbrough had started in eight of his 16 appearances for the Yankees and delivered a 3.90 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 49:17 K:BB in 55.1 innings, but he'll lose his spot in the rotation with New York having gotten strong results from No. 5 starter Cam Schlittler in recent weeks. Yarbrough has pitched well in his own right through three rehab starts with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, with whom he most recently pitched Tuesday and struck out six while allowing two earned runs over 4.2 innings. The lefty will likely be deployed as a long reliever and should be the top choice to enter the rotation if the Yankees lose a starter to an injury at any point in September.

  • Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that Yarbrough (oblique) will make at least one more rehab start, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports. He's made two rehab starts thus far, with the last one coming with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, when he allowed two runs while striking out three over 3.1 innings. Yarbrough got his pitch count up to 50 in that outing and will continue to build up his stamina in case he's needed in the Yankees' rotation. As things stand right now, however, he might be destined for long relief once he rejoins the big club.
