The Diamondbacks released Castro on Wednesday. Castro went unclaimed after Arizona sent him to waivers, and now he's officially a free agent. The veteran reliever missed significant time with a shoulder injury this season and when healthy posted a 5.93 ERA and 8:3 K:BB over 13.2 innings. However, Castro's solid track record should earn him another look somewhere, likely on a minor-league contract.

Castro was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Castro appears to be the odd man out in the bullpen after Arizona acquired right-hander Dylan Floro from the Nationals on Tuesday. Castro will now be placed on waivers, and if he goes unclaimed, he'll either report to Triple-A Reno or elect free agency.

Castro allowed one hit and struck out one over a scoreless inning in Saturday's 12-1 win over the Blue Jays. Castro made his first appearance since being activated off the injured list Thursday. He pitched a scoreless eighth inning with the Diamondbacks ahead 8-1. Castro had missed nearly three months with shoulder inflammation.

The Diamondbacks reinstated Castro (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Thursday. Castro pitched two innings in his final rehab appearance Saturday and gave up no runs on one hit with a walk and a strikeout. The right-hander is now set to make his return after he landed on the injured list due to right shoulder inflammation in late April. In a corresponding move, Slade Cecconi was optioned to Triple-A Reno.

Castro (shoulder) threw 17 pitches in an appearance with Triple-A Reno on Wednesday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. Castro will make another appearance Saturday, with the goal of throwing between 25 and 35 pitches. If that outing goes well, he could be activated for the start of Arizona's series against Atlanta on Monday.
