  • Davis agreed to a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Davis became a free agent last week after being released by the Yankees. He's slashed just .218/.293/.338 through 157 plate appearances at the big-league level this season with the Athletics and Yankees, and it's difficult to envision him earning a role with Baltimore unless the club loses a player or two to injury. Davis is expected to report to Triple-A Norfolk with his new organization.

  • J.D. Davis: Reaches free agency
    By RotoWire

The Yankees released Davis on Friday. Davis was removed from the Yankees' 40-man roster this past weekend and is now officially a free agent after clearing waivers. The 31-year-old has batted only .218/.293/.338 through 157 plate appearances this season, but with a career .764 OPS he should draw some interest on the open market.

  • The Yankees placed Davis on outright waivers Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Davis passed through waivers unclaimed after being DFA'd by the Yankees on Sunday. Assuming he clears waivers again, he will enter free agency and attempt to latch on with another team. The 31-year-old has slashed .218/.293/.338 through 157 plate appearances this season, but he went just 2-for-19 (.105) with one RBI and nine strikeouts over seven games during his time in New York.

  • The Yankees designated Davis for assignment Sunday. The 31-year-old will lose his roster spot to create space for trade acquisition Jazz Chisholm. Davis played in just seven games after being acquired by the Yankees in late June and has a .631 OPS this season between his time in New York and Oakland.

  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: Back from injured list
    By RotoWire

The Yankees activated Davis (illness) from the 10-day injured list Friday. Davis had battled a stomach bug prior to the All-Star break but is feeling well enough to suit up for the start of the second half. Ben Rice has been great against righties (.887 OPS) but hasn't done much versus lefties (.593 OPS), so the 31-year-old Davis will provide the Yankees with another option at first base against left-handed pitching.
