  • The Athletics outrighted Nevin to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. It's not the first time Nevin has been outrighted, so he can elect free agency if he wants. The 27-year-old has a career .204/.299/.315 slash line over parts of four major-league seasons.

  • Nevin went 1-for-3 with a two-run double in a loss to the Mariners on Sunday. Drawing his second consecutive start, Nevin finally put the Athletics' first two runs of the day on the board with his seventh-inning two-bagger, which plated Seth Brown and Tyler Soderstrom. The veteran finished the season with hits in three straight games, but after a hot start that saw him hit .313 over his first 26 contests, Nevin produced an anemic .148/.247/.253 slash line across 186 plate appearances (62 games) the rest of the way at the big-league level.

  • Nevin went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Astros. Nevin gave the A's some life in the ninth inning with an opposite-field blast off Josh Hader, cutting Houston's lead to 6-3. It's Nevin's first home run since July 6 -- he'd gone just 9-for-62 (.145) with a .419 OPS in 26 games coming into Thursday. The 27-year-old Nevin is slashing .196/.287/.329 through 251 plate appearances this season with seven homers, 18 RBI and 20 runs scored while being limited to the occasional start against left-handed pitching.

  • Nevin started at first base in a loss to the Rangers on Saturday and went 0-for-3. Nevin was in the starting lineup for the first time in a week and only the ninth time in August. The journeyman remained in a funk at the plate with his hitless effort, as he's now 2-for-17 in his last six appearances overall. Nevin offers plenty of defensive versatility with his ability to play both the corner infield and outfield spots, but he figures to continue seeing only intermittent playing time down the stretch.

  • Nevin went 2-for-4 with an RBI groundout, a double and two walks in a win over the Mets on Thursday. Nevin started on consecutive days for the first time since July 27-28 and made good use of the opportunity. The veteran's sixth-inning groundout scored JJ Bleday to knot the score at 6-6, while the double was his first extra-base hit since July 28. Nevin has seen time at corner infield and corner outfield in addition to designated hitter this season, and his versatility should continue affording him occasional playing time despite his .210 batting average and .658 OPS across 217 plate appearances.
