Bote cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports. Bote was designated for assignment by Chicago on Friday, but he'll stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 31-year-old had a respectable .304/.333/.391 slash line in 37 games before being booted off the Cubs' 40-man roster, but he recorded just four at-bats in August.

The Cubs designated Bote for assignment Friday, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports. Bote hasn't started a game for Chicago since July 28 and has netted merely four at-bats since then. While the Cubs have struggled to find a spot in the lineup for the 31-year-old, he's been successful when given an opportunity, slashing .301/.333/.391 in 48 plate appearances this season. His spot on the 26-man roster is expected to go to Luis Vazquez while Gavin Hollowell -- who was claimed off waivers from Arizona -- takes Bote's spot on the 40-man roster. The utility player should garner some interest on waivers.

Bote went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Reds. Playing in only his fifth game of the season, Bote recorded his first three hits of the campaign. The veteran utility player gives the Cubs depth across the infield, and with Nico Hoerner (hand) a little banged up at the moment, Bote may have a brief window of extended playing time. However, when Chicago is fully healthy, Bote will find himself on the bench most days, which limits his fantasy upside.

The Cubs selected Bote's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports. The 31-year-old hasn't seen action in the big leagues since 2022 but earned another opportunity after he posted an .887 OPS in 28 games at Triple-A Iowa to begin the season. Bote should fill a utility role and could see some starts against left-handed pitching.

The Cubs reassigned Bote to minor-league camp Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. Bote slugged five home runs during Cactus League play, but he came into camp with little chance at a roster spot. The 30-year-old spent all of the 2023 season at Triple-A Iowa and will head back there to start 2024. Bote is in the final season of a five-year, $15 million extension he signed with the Cubs in April 2019, but he hasn't seen any big-league action since 2022 after being moved off the 40-man roster.
