Trevino will start at catcher Monday in Game 3 of the World Series against the Dodgers, Buster Olney of ESPN reports. Right-hander Walker Buehler will be on the mound for the Dodgers, but it will be the right-handed hitting Trevino behind the plate rather than the lefty-batting Austin Wells. It's the second start this postseason for Trevino, who is 1-for-3 with an RBI single so far during the playoffs.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Trevino will start against "most" left-handers moving forward, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. It looks to be a natural platoon situation at catcher, with Austin Wells handling the starts against right-handers. Boone did add that Wells will see the occasional start versus lefties, including likely being in the lineup Wednesday against a southpaw. Trevino is in Tuesday's lineup against Guardians lefty Matthew Boyd.

Trevino went 1-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and a walk in Friday's 3-0 victory versus the Tigers. Trevino was activated from the injured list during New York's off day Thursday after missing over a month due to a quad injury. The backstop was given a start Friday and walked in his first plate appearance, and he followed the free pass with a surprising steal of second base. It was his first theft since 2022 and just his fourth over seven big-league campaigns. Trevino will likely work in a backup role behind Austin Wells now that he is back in action.

The Yankees reinstated Trevino (quad) from the 10-day injured list Thursday. Manager Aaron Boone said earlier Thursday that Trevino would be activated off the IL ahead of Friday's series opener against the Tigers, and the Yankees have now made the roster move official during the team's day off. The 31-year-old catcher will work as a backup while Austin Wells continues to receive the majority of starts behind the dish, and Carlos Narvaez will be optioned back to Triple-A in order to clear a roster spot.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday on "Foul Territory" that Trevino (quad) will be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday. Boone also reiterated that Austin Wells would continue to see the bulk of the playing time at catcher after Trevino returns. Trevino has been sidelined since mid-July due to a Grade 2 left quad strain and has gone 2-for-8 in three rehab games with Double-A Somerset.
