Brown is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. The Cubs are starting a third straight lefty in the series in Justin Steele, and the left-handed-hitting Brown has been out of the lineup for all three contests, although he did receive a couple plate appearances off the bench Tuesday. Tyler Nevin is in left field for Wednesday's series finale.

Brown is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs. Brown will take a seat with the Cubs sending a tough lefty (Shota Imanaga) to the hill for the series opener at Wrigley Field. Tyler Nevin will spell Brown in left field and bat eighth.

Brown is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Houston. Southpaw Framber Valdez is on the mound for the Astros, so the lefty-batting Brown will begin the game on the bench. Daz Cameron will start in left field and bat eighth for the Athletics.

Brown went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run and an additional RBI in Friday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Tigers. Brown didn't start Friday, but he was one of four Athletics with multiple hits in the marathon game. The 32-year-old saved the day in the 11th inning with a game-tying homer, then came up big again with the walk-off hit, a single, to plate JJ Bleday in the 13th. Brown has seven multi-hit efforts over his last 10 games, going 16-for-35 (.457) with four homers and 14 RBI in that span. The surge has him up to a .251/.310/.421 slash line with 14 homers, 44 RBI, 29 runs scored and four stolen bases through 106 contests overall.

Brown is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers. He's been swinging a hot bat over the past couple weeks, slashing .391/.442/.630 with three homers and 12 RBI in his last 13 games, but Brown remains a strict platoon player for manager Mark Kotsay. In fact, Brown has made just a single start against a lefty this season. Tarik Skubal starts for Detroit in the series opener.
