Gurriel is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants. Gurriel has been eased back in from a calf strain, as he'll now take a seat for the second time in four games since being activated from the 10-day injured list Friday. Pavin Smith will take over in left field in place of Gurriel, who has gone 3-for-8 with a home run, a walk, two RBI and two runs in his first two starts following his activation.

Gurriel isn't in the Diamondbacks' lineup for Saturday's game against Milwaukee. Gurriel went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored during his first game back from the injured list Friday, and he'll take a seat Saturday as the D-backs ease him back into playing everyday. Pavin Smith will start in left field in Gurriel's absence.

Gurriel went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-4 win over the Brewers. Gurriel, who spent nearly three weeks on the 10-day injured list with a strained left calf, was activated from the IL earlier in the day and started in left field. His sixth-inning homer gave the Diamondbacks a lead they would not relinquish. The domino effect of his return means Jake McCarthy, who sat out Friday, and Pavin Smith will likely lose at-bats.

The Diamondbacks reinstated Gurriel (calf) from the 10-day injured list Friday. The 31-year-old landed on the shelf in early September due to a calf strain, but he's ready to rejoin the active roster after taking live at-bats at Arizona's camp facility this week. Gurriel was in the midst of a hot stretch at the plate prior to the injury, as he has a .338/.432/.544 slash line with five doubles and three homers in his past 20 games.

Gurriel (calf) had four live at-bats at Arizona's camp facility at Salt River Fields on Tuesday, MLB.com reports. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Gurriel came out of the activity feeling good. The skipper added that Gurriel also did some "aggressive baserunning" and "outfield work." The team is hopeful Gurriel can return during its current road trip. Arizona finishes a series against Colorado on Wednesday before moving on to Milwaukee.
